About the Role

Norths Fitness is seeking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager with a fitness background to head up the growth and development of our health and fitness facility in Cammeray. We need someone who is a strong and passionate leader. You are motivated to empower your team by rolling up your sleeves and working across our fitness facility in order to better understand and drive member experience, strategy and growth

The Operations Manager's primary responsibility is to lead a team of Fitness and Lifestyle Specialists to ensure the smooth running of all departments and operations. Managing and motivating the team in sales, through the implementation of ongoing sales strategies and marketing promotions whilst adhering to budgets and generating revenue. This position is responsible for achieving all financial and profitability targets set through successful sales strategies while maintaining a cost-effective roster. Within your team you will work with the best Marketing, Group Fitness and Membership Coordinators (true story).

Your key priorities will be to:

  • Exceptional Customer Experience. Oversee exceptional customer experience standards at Reception across the team and lead by example in all interactions. Ensure team is adhering to the reception checklist and that daily tasks are completed and commented on. Receive and respond to feedback while developing optimum ways to receive and collate feedback.
  • People Leadership. Be directly responsible for performance, direction and succession planning of our people. Ensure all staff are appropriately trained and hold all licenses and applicable certificates for their role. Oversee the advertising, recruitment, hiring, inducting and training of Fitness and Lifestyle Specialists. Create and maintain an enjoyable environment for all employees, members, & guests.
  • Strategy and Marketing. Assist in the successful implementation of all marketing, promotion and member relations programs. Promote & inform employees of all marketing promotions, retention activities and sales initiatives.
  • Communication. Maintain effective communication with all key stakeholders including senior management, line managers, team members and the Board. Create a high-performance operations team by providing role clarity and performance expectations for our people.
  • Financial Management. Continuously grow sales and project manage retention activities in line with membership growth target plan and strategic plan. Complete weekly sales & membership reports for the General Manager - Business Development & Leisure. Drive new sales business by managing & building relationships with various prospects, clients, & partners in the Fitness Industry. Continually monitor budget expenditure and revenue to deliver activities in a cost-effective manner and in line with the budget.
  • Strategy and marketing. Assist the General Manager - Health and Leisure in the execution of new strategic developments through supporting documentation and market research. Execute and deliver the marketing initiatives set out in the marketing calendar. Review results and discuss/report back to the General Manager - Health and & Leisure. Monitor competitor membership rates and services to ensure Norths Fitness remains competitive in the market.
  • Work, Safety, Health and Compliance. Actively support a range of activities in accordance with Work, Health & Safety legislation obligations and in line with Norths Risk Management Program. Ensure compliance wherever necessary including all relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

The Candidate:

  • Demonstrated management experience in leading and developing high performance teams in a health and fitness environment
  • Results driven with a passion for everything health and fitness
  • A bachelor's degree in business management and/or Sports Management; with a minimum of a Certificate IV in Fitness and/or registered with Fitness Australia
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Advanced Resuscitation Certifications
  • Valid Employer Working with Childrens Check
  • Accountable for aspects of your P&L
  • Have a strong focus on delivering high standards and exceptional membership service
  • Be hands-on and operational
  • Be responsible for developing the skills of the staff service skills, team culture and members relationships
  • Have strong stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work a flexible roster
