- Chair and lead Academic Committee meetings on a regular basis for all curriculum matters in conjunction with Faculty Co-ordinators where consultation of academic matters will occur. Generate teaching allocations of subject specific classes in consultation with the Principal.
- Lead and generate a functional timetable for the school to operate P-12 in consultation with the Academic Committee and College Executive.
- Approve assignment extensions in consultation with the classroom teacher, and / or Faculty Co-ordinators.
- Oversee and implement an accurate Assessment Schedule for students in Years P-12 on a term or semester basis and publish to students, staff and parents.
- Assume overall responsibility for external testing ensuring full compliance with authorities, budgeting for testing instruments and liaising with the Academic Committee for administration of the tests.
- Allocate students to classes and subjects based on merit and elective preferences through appropriate processes. This includes distance education facilitation.
- Oversee Information Evenings for subject selections as required.
- Facilitate parent teacher interviews including communication to the College community. Manage individual subject changes for students in consultation with teaching staff and parents.
- Create an appropriate exam schedule and liaise with Academic Committee to publish the document in a timely manner.
- Liaise with staff to nominate recipients of academic awards for Merit and Principal assemblies based on the College’s criteria for those awards.
- Compile an accurate list of all prize winners for Presentation Day, or any other subject or curriculum related prizes. Announce or present recipient prizes at ceremonial assemblies and, or Presentation Day as required.
- Approve all external correspondence written by teaching staff related to all curriculum matters (P-12), ensuring quality control.
- Report any staff misconduct to the Principal.
- Oversee all late assessment items including management of consequences, communication to parents and teachers.
- Oversee the development of the Academic Handbook for teachers and ensure it is an effective and operative policy approach.
- Review annually and seek recommendations from the curriculum committee.
- Develop a seamless and sequential curriculum from P-12 including effective teaching programs submitted by teachers and reviewed annually in partnership with the Academic Committee
- Oversee the quality of all teaching programs to ensure they are effective and meeting the philosophical underpinning of the course as well as the educational connection to key curriculum learning areas.
- Oversee all QCAA matters and consult with the QCAA to ensure Djarragun College is fully compliant and operating effectively and as required legislatively, and to ensure that College Registration is maintained.
- Ensure teaching staff are familiar with Teacher Accreditation Process and operating in accordance with the Australian Professional Teaching Standards and the QCT.
- Ensure that supervisory staff provide constructive mentoring and support as required when applying for an increase in status.Oversee all College student reporting including quality control and processes with a timeline schedule for staff. An effective in-service is to be provided to staff annually and providing an improvement orientated written Report Guide for staff.
- Approve all curriculum excursions prior to the event departing the College and ensure they are reasonable and required within the work programs. Ensure each is on the School Calendar set down at the annual calendar meeting.
- Produce appropriate curriculum reporting for the Annual School Report, School Magazine publication as well as weekly contributions to the newsletter and social media on curriculum matters.
- Provide a Summary Report on curriculum matters for the Principal prior to each Board meeting (approximately 4 times per year) on significant events and results. Present an annual review of the year to the Principal, and at the Principal’s invitation –attend and present to the Board on curriculum and academic development matters
- Liaise with the Finance Manager to apply for any government grants related to curriculum areas and support funding.
- Capture and analyse external test results where the College is involved and develop strategies with Faculty Co-ordinators to improve teaching programs where areas of improvement are warranted.
- Lead, mentor and coach teachers to improve in their own professional practice and curriculum delivery.
- Develop survey instruments to capture student feedback and provide appropriate mechanisms to enable teachers to be informed with a view to improve their own practice as part of their annual review.
- Implement appropriate software programs to monitor and track student academic performance and make results known to teachers, students and parents where appropriate.
- Ensure particular students are diagnostically tested and appropriate referral systems are implemented.
- Lead and attend relevant case conference meetings related to academic development of students.
- Create strategic Professional Development and Learning plans for all members of the teaching staff at least one year in advance in consultation with the Principal to meet the developing needs of teachers professionally. Recommend external PD for staff to the Principal.
- Oversee the collation of an effective Professional Development journal contributed to by each person attending any external PD, and made readily available to staff both on the school network and in hardcopy in the Staff Common Room Reading Collection.
- Oversee the implementation of technology in teaching in the classroom in consultation with the IT staff/committee and Principal. Assist in developing strategic applications to enhance teaching and learning involving technology.
- Liaise with the Academic Committee and Learning Enhancement staff to ensure effective literacy and numeracy programs are implemented including regular guided reading and assessment, targeted spelling programs, numeracy programs and reading intervention programs but not limited to these.
- Promote teacher collegiately and facilitate professional improvement through teacher-teacher buddy programs and connect to external colleagues where appropriate in consultation with the Principal.
- Assist the Principal in developing Professional Teacher Appraisal systems and oversee the reports to teachers from a panel.
- Develop learning enhancement programs for students in the curriculum such as study skills, mind mapping, habits of mind and or similar to promote a positive learning culture among students.
- Review the School website periodically and advise of errors or improvements. Specifically publishing and managing information relating to curriculum.
- Lead the QCAA Registration process for curriculum matters and liaise with staff to collate the appropriate documentation.
- Ensure information is compiled in an appropriate and organised and timely manner ready for presentation and inspection.
- Address students at assembly on all matters curriculum on a regular basis.
- Be a member of the Colours Committee representing student academic achievement P-12 by nominating qualifying students to the committee for recognition.
- Assist the Principal in the appointment of prospective teaching staff where appropriate. Approve purchase order requests by staff allocated to your role. Ensure orders are appropriate and correct funds are allocated to cover the costs. Maintain within delegated budget allowances.
- Attend community and stakeholder meetings at the College and within the wider and regional communities.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of all QCAA procedures for curriculum compliance and registration.
- Remain informed with trends involving ACARA, AITSL, QCAA and other curriculum and teaching bodies.
- Remain abreast of significant educational trends in teaching and learning domains including application of learning technologies.
- Assist teaching staff, students or parents with matters of student discipline or behaviour where the issues remain within a single class or a particular teacher.
- Mentor Faculty Co-ordinators in areas of curriculum development, leadership attributes and inspire Faculty Co-ordinators and teaching staff towards excellence in their own approach to teaching.
- Lead Faculty Co-ordinators and teaching staff in a supportive approach fostering professional goal setting and promoting a collegial staff who share resources and are in turn supportive of each other.
- Adhere to employment expectations as stated in the Employment Contract, the Code of Conduct and its associated policies.
- Assist with the supervision of afterschool detentions from time to time.
- Review and update curriculum policies annually and adjust as required.
- Meet weekly with the Principal 1:1 and inform the Principal of trends, developments and needs particular to this portfolio.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Principal
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field of education, preferably with post graduate study in educational leadership, management or administration.
- Experience in developing the capacity of teachers and in supporting teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching to enhance student learning.
- Extensive curriculum knowledge and experience in developing high quality, high impact teaching and learning sequences.
- Experience in working with First Nations peoples, including a commitment for cultural respect of their traditions, knowledge and ways of learning
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing positive relationships and partnerships between schools, staff, students and families
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding with government funded programs, including NCCD, and how to lead staff to ensure compliance with these funded programs
- Demonstrated successful experience in researching, developing, implementing and reviewing projects that lead to student engagement
- Demonstrate high level of interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, students and other stakeholders
- Ability to maintain composure, balance workload and conflicting priorities and effectively handle difficult situations
