The Gold Coast SUNS are seeking a confident, dependable & team-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team at our Head Office in Carrara. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will work closely with the Finance Assistant to ensure the Finance Team provides an efficient and effective finance function for the Club.

Working in a diverse and fast paced environment, the successful candidate will take ownership of the role, be committed to the GC Suns, proficient in Excel and willing to take on any task directed towards them.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with profit & loss review, balance sheet reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end journals and stadium event returns.
  • Track event costs and review/post Accounts Payable and Receivable batches.
  • Handle contra agreements and monthly retail/inventory reconciliations.
  • Process corporate credit card expenditures.
  • Maintain player payroll deductions, fixed assets, and assist in the completion of the annual FBT return.
  • Support the Finance Assistant and handle accounts payable/receivable inquiries.
  • Track debtors, assist with BAS and GST reconciliations, and work on system improvements.
  • Onboard new staff for required systems and assist in match day coordination.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong personal brand which personifies the GC SUNS values
  • Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience within the operations of a medium-sized organisation
  • Completed or commenced a Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Accounting
  • Experience in completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Working knowledge of GST
  • The ability to multitask & comply with reporting and month end deadlines
  • Strong accounting system skills with a major accounting software package and experience using Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & the ability to deal with internal and external stakeholders in a direct and respectful manner
  • The ability to contribute & demonstrate initiative in a team environment
  • The ability to be flexible & adaptable in an evolving Football club environment
  • Have a desire to work in the AFL/sport environment
