Job SummaryTo engage as a Lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and further development of the School’s programs, to undertake research of high quality in any field of Economics and Econometrics, and to perform service and engagement activities associated with the School. For US applicants, please note that Australian universities use British terminology, so the Lecturer position is equivalent to an Assistant Professor position in the US.DutiesDuties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Research
  • In research, the Lecturer will have an emerging record of publications in world leading or internationally excellent journals, within any field of Economics or Econometrics.
  • Be active in applying for external research funds (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers).
  • Aim to partner in research within the University and beyond to address challenges of relevance to any field of Economics or Econometrics.
  • Present at key domestic and international conferences, as well as at other key universities.
Teaching
  • In teaching, the Lecturer will achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and will improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation and delivery of substantial course modules and coordinate one or more courses, including collaboration in curriculum design and delivery where appropriate.
  • Engage in face-to-face, online and/or blended modes of teaching preparation and delivery, as required.
  • Coordinate tutors and provide tutorial assistance if necessary and be available for consultation with students.
  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Higher Degree by Research and other students as required.
Service and engagementIn service, the Lecturer will demonstrate efficient performance in and management of allocated roles, share in academic service responsibilities, and contribute to outcomes of internal committees.Selection criteriaEssential
  • PhD, or PhD thesis submitted on commencement, in Economics or a directly related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in any field of Economics or Econometrics.
  • Evidence of a current and active program of research, expected to lead to publications in world leading and internationally excellent journals, and a pipeline of research-in-progress which is targeting world leading and internationally excellent journals in any field of Economics or Econometrics.
  • Evidence of high quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, and a demonstrated ability to relate well to students in an interactive learning environment.
  • An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the School at a University and wider community level, including public, private and/or community sector organisations.
  • High-level communication, inter-personal and collaboration skills that are consistent with the values of the School and University.
  • The ability to balance demands in teaching, research and other service activities while maintaining high levels of work productivity.
  • An appreciation of the aims of the School and the University and a willingness to contribute to the achievement of organisational goals.
Desirable
  • Publications in, or at least papers already and credibly submitted to, world leading or internationally excellent journals in any field of Economics or Econometrics.
  • Emerging record of supervision of higher degree by research or other students.
  • Demonstrated participation in applications for competitive research funding.
  • Demonstrable ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.
  • Demonstrated involvement in service and engagement activities, and potential of nonacademic impact from her or his research.
  • Experience in course and program development or other teaching innovations, such as the design, development, delivery, and/or administration of online and/or blended educational practices.
  • In engagement, the Lecturer will aim to collaborate with the public sector, private sector and community sector as appropriate, e.g. through presentations, promotional activities, committees, and/or media work.
  • Undertake a service role in the broader academic discipline; e.g., acting as referee/editor for leading academic journals, supporting national or international conferences.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the Head of School.
Conditions of employmentSeminarApplicants invited for interview may be expected to present a seminar in conjunction with the selection interview process.Qualification VerificationAn appointment to this position is subject to the verification of the highest academic qualification from the conferring institution.Employment typeThis is an academic Level B full-time, continuing appointment with a three (3) year probationary period.Salary and benefitsAn attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. This position is entitled to four weeks’ annual leave. Other terms and conditions of employment will be negotiated with the Dean and Head of School.RelocationIn the case of an interstate or international appointment, allowances for removal, establishment and temporary accommodation expenses may be negotiated as part of the employment contract.
