About the ABC
Across Australia and internationally, the ABC is Australia's primary national broadcaster, providing broadcasting and digital media services that inform, entertain, educate, contribute to a sense of national identity, and reflect the cultural diversity of the Australian community.
The ABC is a Commonwealth statutory corporation within the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts portfolio. It is funded by the Commonwealth Government, while maintaining independence from Government.
About the Role
The Corporate Governance Lead will support the Head of Board Secretariat & Corporate Governance to ensure the efficient functioning of the ABC Board, Board Committees, and the ABC Advisory Council. The role will be responsible for updating and embedding the corporate governance framework, policies, and practices to ensure that the ABC is managing its legislative and compliance obligations while delivering some of Australia's best content, including Four Corners, the Hottest 100, and Bluey.
You will work in a highly engaged team and liaise with Board members, Advisory Council members, and senior executives across the Corporation to support the Board Secretariat and Corporate Governance functions.
About You
You are an experienced lawyer with an ability to monitor and understand changes in the regulatory environment and recommend and administer appropriate action. You'll foster and champion a culture of compliance and be able to confidently advise on governance best practice. You will have skills and experience that will enable you to assist with Board, Board Committee, and Advisory Council management and act as delegate for the Head of Board Secretariat as required.
You are a strategic thinker with initiative and a deep understanding of governance issues, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Ideally, you will have experience developing and maintaining corporate governance and compliance frameworks.
You possess highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others by presenting a sound and considered approach towards objectives.
You're a strong team player with enthusiasm for building and maintaining collaborative working relationships across a large corporation, including at the most senior levels.
