Support the Senior Manager - Reinsurance Technical Services in delivering on all actuarial and technical aspects for the Reinsurance function.

The opportunity:

This role has responsibility for supporting the Senior Manager - Reinsurance Technical Services in delivering on all actuarial and technical aspects for the Reinsurance function. This will include managing the catastrophe and pandemic arrangements, treaty remediation, treaty recapture analysis, compliance with all Group Office reinsurance standards/governance processes, regulatory requirements, reinsurance specific CPS320 advice and effective management of the collateral trust arrangements.

To do this successfully you will:
  • Manage discrete technical projects such as the recapture of reinsurance treaties/portfolios
  • Establish new reinsurance arrangements as needed with AIA Re
  • Provision of comprehensive financial analysis and development of recommendations within reinsurance-specific advice and preparation of required reinsurance approval forms
  • Review of the calculation of cumulative experience adjustment mechanisms, reinsurance profit/loss share payments and lapse experience share payments for treaties containing such provisions
  • Supporting the Senior Manager - Reinsurance Technical Services with the management and renewal of the AIAA catastrophe and pandemic treaties
  • Performing the review of pricing on any potential cases where AIAA acts as a reinsurer
  • Conducting or peer review (as required) of detailed financial analysis on complex reinsurance-related remediation activities
  • Peer review of annual treaty performance analysis on the AIAA reinsurance portfolio and quarterly reinsurance reports

Successful applications will demonstrate:
  • Qualified actuary with strong business and commercial awareness and at least 3 years of practical experience in life insurance.
  • Experience in life reinsurance matters is preferred
  • Strong investigatory and problem-solving skills and experience.
  • Ability to take ownership of and work on small projects with relatively little oversight
  • Strong communication, time management, planning and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian life insurance environment, APRA Life Prudential Standards, tax and legislation.
