As a Principal SDET, you will be responsible for the complete testing lifecycle of highly complex projects or features, encompassing test design, automation development, and production monitoring (including crashes and any production-related issues) within your squad.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work within a cross-functional agile team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Significantly enhance automation code structure and framework or design and implement from scratch, focusing on improving maintainability, execution speed, and coverage.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a specific technology area while maintaining a working understanding of how related systems interact with their technology stack.
  • Take the lead in conducting Proof of Concepts (POCs) for new languages or frameworks within your technical focus area.
  • Lead the design and code review process for test automation, actively seeking and providing constructive criticism.
  • Ensure predictability, quality, and efficiency in your squad's delivery or deliveries of multiple squads you are overseeing.
  • Automate repetitive manual tasks to boost personal/team productivity.
  • Prioritize and recognize the importance of addressing maintenance and technical debt within the automation framework.
  • Escalate challenges that fall outside your control but have an impact on the squad's delivery.
  • Make work prioritization decisions with a clear understanding of the trade-offs between quality, technical debt, and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with developers during code reviews and offer recommendations for enhancing test coverage at the appropriate level.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with other squads in your pod and collaborate with Product and Development counterparts to address issues impacting your squad's delivery.
  • Actively participate in the prioritization of cross-squad automation initiatives and assume a leadership role within your own squads.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced in Agile Development, an iterative and flexible approach to software development that emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and customer feedback throughout the development process.
  • Experienced in a culture of continuous integration and continuous deployment automation & orchestration.
  • Advanced in the creation of Test Automation Frameworks, a set of components that facilitate executing tests and comprehensive reporting of test results.
  • Competent in Technology Strategy; the collective tools, processes, and methodologies that enable an organization to align business strategy and goals with its IT services and infrastructure.
  • Experienced in Software Testing; an investigation conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the software product or service under test.
  • Proficient with Microservices / Service-oriented Architecture; an architectural approach where software applications are composed of small, independent, and loosely coupled services that communicate with each other through APIs, enabling flexibility, scalability, and modularity.
  • Advanced in IT Risk Management, the policies, procedures, and technologies that a company uses to mitigate threats from malicious actors and reduce information technology vulnerabilities.
  • Advanced in Troubleshooting, the systematic process of identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues or problems that arise in various systems, devices, or processes.
  • Advanced level Project / Programme Management, planning, organizing, and overseeing tasks, resources, and timelines to achieve specific objectives and deliver successful outcomes within a defined scope.
  • Advanced in Business Process Management, the discipline in which people use various methods to discover, model, analyze, measure, improve, optimize, and automate business processes.
  • Proficient in Business Analysis; systematically evaluating an organization's processes, systems, and strategies to identify opportunities for improvement and facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Competent in Technology Governance; the framework of policies, processes, and structures that guide the effective and responsible management, decision-making, and accountability for an organization's technology-related activities and investments.
