About the Organisation

Every day, Life Without Barriers provides support and care to children and young people, as we work collaboratively with families, carers, and communities, to ensure they have the environment they deserve to grow. With a focus on ensuring safety and respect, this is an opportunity to make a positive and meaningful difference in these young lives and help pave a brighter future.

Life Without Barriers is a leading social purpose organisation of 8,000 employees working in more than 500 communities across Australia. We support children, young people and families, people with disability, older people and people with mental illness. We work with people who are homeless and refugees and asylum seekers. Join a community of people dedicated to breaking down barriers.

We want to employ people who reflect the diversity of our clients to ensure we can support each client's individual needs and wants. We encourage people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and people with disability to apply.

About the Child, Youth and Family (CYF) Program
LWB delivers a range of Out of Home Care Services for children, young people and their families, throughout Australia. We use Cornell University's Children and Residential Experience (CARE) model of practice to guide our work. Through ongoing training and support we use this model of practice to equip carers and staff to support children in a way that creates conditions for positive change.

If you are passionate about seeing positive outcomes for children and love a fast-paced work environment in a supportive and caring team, then this is the role for you

About the Role

A new opportunity has become available for a House Manager to work within our Residential Care programs in Geraldton. Reporting to the Operations Manager for the region, the House Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the residential houses. Most importantly, you will ensure that we are creating a safe, culturally appropriate and healing environment for children and young people.

This is a hands-on role with most time spent on-site in the home, and 1 day a week in the new LWB office in Geraldton. This position is being offered as a permanent, full-time position, with access to salary packaging. This role will require shift work at times, including some 7:30am starts to help get the kids ready for school and occasionally weekends when required, with penalty rates applied to those weekend shifts.

You will mentor a team of Residential Support Workers in providing purposeful support to young people in residential care, with high and complex needs. You will strive to enhance the lives of young people in a 24/7 residential setting, incorporating a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach within the daily structure and purposeful programming. There is a strong emphasis on leading your team to provide a secure base for our young people within the home, liaising with culturally appropriate services, and providing opportunities for the young people to connect with the culture in which they identify.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build professional, trusting relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
  • Ensure the home is a place that is emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, and appropriately engaging and stimulating, to foster growth and resilience.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Departmental Case Plan (where applicable) and develop and implement the LWB Case/Care plan that drives day to day service delivery.
  • Manage, support and provide reflective supervision and team meetings to a team of residential workers, and lead staff to work as a team in the best interests of children and young people.
  • Support staff to apply the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention system (TCI) to prevent, de-escalate and respond to crisis incidents involving children and young people.
  • Undertake rostering of residential workers ensuring that risks are managed, and staffing levels reflect the needs of children and young people living in the home.
  • Coordinate the intake and transition of new children and young people into the home and the exit of children and young people to permanent homes or step-down services.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the CIRTS database is up to date with all client information.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or similar.
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage.
  • Experience in the coordination and management of 24-hour residential services for vulnerable people.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage crises and critical issues and deal with complex and challenging situations.
  • Current Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain if successful).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills, use of Microsoft Office packages.

All positions within Life Without Barriers will be required to undergo probity checks including criminal record checks and working with children check and DCP395 Child Protection Check.

  • Dedicated After Hours on-call support to assist you after hours and weekends.
  • An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, including mobile phone and laptop + non-for-profit tax reduction options.
  • Opportunity to work for one of Australia's largest social purpose organisations.
  • Permanent Full Time Position with ongoing support and training.
