About the opportunity

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is a hands-on role overseeing the maintenance and servicing of bulk handling machinery, ensuring continuous operational efficiency for shipping operations.

In this role, you will:

  1. Coordinate servicing and preventative maintenance of bulk handling equipment
  2. Lead and manage a small team, ensuring smooth operations
  3. Assist on the tools where required
  4. Implement and maintain maintenance schedules to reduce downtime
  5. Oversee repairs, troubleshooting, and performance assessments
  6. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations

This role involves a mix of office work and 'on the tools', ensuring all equipment, including Enviro Hoppers, Diesel Grabs, mobile hoppers, forklifts, excavators, and skid steers, is fully operational. You will liaise with stevedores, port officers, and suppliers to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules. The position offers job stability and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by enhancing operational efficiency and team performance.

About you

We are looking for a hands-on leader with strong mechanical expertise and the ability to coordinate workshop operations efficiently.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  1. Trade qualifications as a mechanic, fitter, or boiler maker
  2. Experience managing maintenance schedules and troubleshooting equipment issues
  3. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team to achieve their best
  4. Forklift and EWP licences, as well as a heavy vehicle licence
  5. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions
  6. Experience with preventive maintenance and software systems
  7. Ability to pass a police check and medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing
