SHIPPING MANAGER (m/f/d)
Responsibilities
The Shipping Manager is responsible for the overall shipping process. He/she is able to actively support the team, and leading the shipping team. He/she is acting as an interface to internal departments and can also communicate towards customers. The role of the Head of the shipping department requires a combination of leadership skills, logistical expertise, and a good eye for detail to ensure smooth operations while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Management and control of the shipping department: Responsibility for the efficient organization and implementation of all shipping processes within the company.
- Optimization of shipping processes: Analysis and continuous improvement of processes using lean management methods to reduce waste and maximize efficiency.
- Technical process control: Implementation and support of logistics and shipping software (e.g., ERP systems such as SAP, TMS, WMS), as well as continuous adaptation to changing requirements.
- Coordination of shipping logistics: selection of the best shipping methods and service providers (air, sea, and land transport), considering costs, time frames and quality.
- Monitoring and analysis of KPIs: Monitoring of key performance indicators (e.g., shipping speed, error rates, transport costs, billing volume) and their continuous optimization.
- Team leadership: managing a team of shipping employees, training and developing employees regarding technical systems and best practices in the shipping process.
- Quality assurance: Responsibility for compliance with quality standards and processes in shipping, including the implementation of error analyses and prevention.
- Packaging optimization: Ensuring efficient and safe packaging of goods, taking cost efficiency and sustainability into account.
- Customs clearance and international shipping regulations: Ensuring that all international shipping processes comply with legal requirements and that the necessary documentation is prepared.
Technical Requirements
- Completed education, e.g., as a logistics specialist or similar (bachelor's degree or higher is preferred)
- Several years of professional experience in the management of a shipping department or in a comparable management position within the logistics industry.
- Technical knowledge in the area of shipping and logistics, in particular in the use of ERP systems (e.g., SAP), TMS, WMS and tracking software.
- Knowledge of customs and export processing as well as international shipping regulations.
- Experience in process optimization using lean management or Six Sigma methods.
- Strong leadership and experience in managing teams, including fostering employee development and motivation.
- Very good analytical skills to analyze KPIs and derive improvement measures.
- Strong communication skills and assertiveness, both internally and in contact with external service providers and customers.
- Excellent written and spoken English, especially regarding international logistics processes.
- Confident handling of MS Office (especially Excel) / ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA is a big plus)
Big Plus:
- Completed lean management training, e.g., six sigma, black belt.
- Management experience in internationally operating groups
