About this opportunity

Council is seeking to appoint a permanent full time, Senior Governance and Risk Officer providing high level support services in governance functions, including the implementation and continual improvement of Council's enterprise risk management and compliance systems.

The position will also provide specialist advice and professional services to management on a range of issues including risk, insurance, legislative compliance, business processes and responses to emerging issues to ensure good governance across Council. They will foster a culture of compliance within the organisation by promoting and implementing Council's governance frameworks and principles.

  • Provide high level support in the development, implementation and review of Councils governance, risk, policy and compliance frameworks to ensure the highest standards of corporate governance are maintained.
  • Provide risk management advice, analytics and insights to key stakeholder groups, including preparation and delivery of written and verbal reports to governing committees and Council management teams.
  • Communicate and promote a positive risk and compliance culture across Council through the delivery of training programs, workshops, forums and other internal engagements.
  • Assist in the implementation of Council's corporate policy framework and conduct reviews of policies and procedures.

About you…

  • A tertiary qualification in law, risk management, governance or a relevant discipline well regarded.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to identify solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide advice on complex and sensitive issues, prepare complex correspondence and develop and review procedures and guidelines.
  • High level interpersonal skills and an ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and interpret legislative and policy matters.
