Are you passionate about shaping the future of Health and Physical Education? Villanova College is seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of Faculty – Health and Physical Education to join our Middle Leadership team for a parental leave cover contract. This pivotal role involves leading and developing the Health and Physical Education curriculum across Years 5 to 12, ensuring the highest educational outcomes for our students.

Position Purpose

The Head of Faculty is a member of the College’s Middle Leadership team and has specific responsibility for leading, developing, and championing the Health and Physical Education curriculum across Years 5 to 12. This role works collaboratively with the College Leadership Team, Middle Leaders, and teaching staff to achieve the highest possible educational outcomes for students. The Head of Faculty leads a team and is responsible for both staff and student engagement and performance in line with strategic goals.

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Deliver outstanding Health and Physical Education with unwavering dedication to excellence.
  • Lead and support an expert teaching team through active participation in professional development opportunities, ensuring effective communication and consultation within the faculty and with parents.
  • Provide regular progress updates on goal achievement to the College Leadership Team and support staff in their Professional Learning Plans through ongoing professional discourse, collegial support, observations, and reflective practices.
  • Manage faculty resources, including financial and budgetary resources, equipment, and stock.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a rigorous curriculum in collaboration with the Dean of Teaching and Learning, ensuring familiarity with relevant curricula and communicating changes to appropriate staff.
  • Oversee procedural compliance with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), actively monitoring and responding to curriculum development and initiatives at various levels.
  • Support and promote high-yield pedagogies based on current research and emerging trends, facilitating the development of reliable and rigorous assessment methods.
  • Assist teachers in understanding and implementing appropriate differentiation in their classrooms, using student data to inform teaching approaches and improve learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student progress through performance and benchmarked data, collaborating with Heads of Year to ensure effective behaviour management and restorative practices.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the faculty.
  • Establish positive relationships, engaging in the pastoral care of students and supporting their spiritual and moral development.
  • Create a dynamic, student-centered learning environment that is supportive, cooperative, and aligned with relevant curriculum policies and practices.
  • Implement effective, adaptive, inclusive, and equitable teaching strategies.
  • Provide effective supervision of students and implement robust behaviour management practices.
  • Support the sacramental, liturgical, ritual, and prayer life of the College, ensuring that the teachings, values, and practices of the Catholic Church form a foundation for learning and teaching.
  • Be a visible leader, driving continuous improvement strategies within the educational environment and promoting a culture of learning and professional development.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Relevant Qualifications (bachelor's degree or higher in education) and current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, with a track record of successfully managing and developing staff to achieve strategic goals.
  • Proficiency in using a range of information communications technology skills (e.g., Microsoft Teams, supporting students’ use of technology to access curriculum).
  • Ability to work autonomously and under limited direction, while inspiring and motivating students in a progressive learning environment to prepare them for the future.
  • Commitment to Catholic education, philosophy, and practice, with a willingness to participate in the College’s co-curricular program and attend camps as directed.
