About Us:

Our client is a leading player in the Education sector. The organisation is about to embark on an aggressive growth strategy, and this has presented a unique opportunity to play an important role in scaling an already highly successful business. The newly created Senior Data Manager role will play a key role in ensuring the organisation can scale with confidence, supported by a robust and contemporary capability and compliance.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Manager with a strong background in data governance, data auditing, data compliance and process improvement. This individual should possess exceptional technical skills in data management, including expertise in database systems, data modelling, and ETL processes. They must have a proven track record of successfully understanding complex data environments and implementing best practices for data governance, security, and compliance.

The ideal candidate will be able to move comfortably between strategic and more tactical concepts and have excellent problem-solving abilities, capable of quickly identifying areas for improvement in existing data processes and structures.

They should have hands-on experience in developing and deploying data governance frameworks, establishing naming conventions, and optimizing data architecture.

Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as this role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to drive change and foster a data-driven culture. The candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently to deliver tangible improvements in data management practices.

Ultimately, we're looking for a change agent who can not only identify issues but also take ownership of implementing solutions, ensuring that the organization's data processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
Data Governance and Audit

  • Conduct comprehensive audits of existing data processes, governance structures, and naming conventions
  • Develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
  • Establish data standards, definitions, and quality metrics
  • Create and enforce data collection rules and naming conventions
Data Management and Architecture
  • Design and implement scalable data architecture and management systems
  • Oversee data storage, archival, and retrieval strategies
  • Lead data integration, migration, and quality control initiatives
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security across all platforms
Security and Compliance
  • Implement robust data security measures and access controls
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments
Process Improvement and Innovation
  • Identify areas for improvement in existing data processes and structures
  • Evaluate and implement new data management technologies and tools
  • Drive innovation in data management practices
Reporting and Analytics
  • Analyse data to identify trends and generate insights for stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain data visualization and reporting systems
Training and Culture
  • Provide training and support to staff on data management best practices
  • Foster a data-driven decision-making culture within the organization
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Manage a team of data professionals, including mentoring and performance reviews. This will evolve after an initial period of a few months to allow someone new into the organisation to find their feet.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to align data management activities with organizational goals
Innovation and Research
  • Stay abreast of cutting-edge AI technologies and data management practices
  • Conduct proof-of-concept projects to evaluate new AI tools and methodologies
  • Collaborate with academic institutions or research labs on AI ethics and governance in order to implement AI policy and governance in our organization
