The Opportunity

EnergyCo NSW is seeking to appoint a Project Director to deliver on priority Government projects. This role is responsible for supporting the Executive Director in leading and directing the successful coordination and delivery of mega infrastructure projects consisting of:

  • Hunter Central Coast REZ
  • Existing network upgrade projects

Reporting to an Executive Project Director, this project leadership role provides total oversight of these electricity infrastructure projects and actively mitigates delivery risk whilst driving outcomes for electricity consumers and regional communities. Each project has consideration of significant budgetary, social, economic and environmental impact.

Collectively, EnergyCo projects will deliver the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap that is expected to attract up to $32 billion in private investment for regional energy infrastructure by 2030 and achieve a capacity target of at least 12 gigawatts of renewable energy generation, and two gigawatts of long-duration storage.

This is a rare opportunity to make your mark on Australia's renewable and energy industry by leading societal shaping projects throughout this decade, whilst also making a substantial contribution to achieving NSW's Net Zero targets.

About you

The projects are at different stages of maturity and would benefit from a diverse skill set. These could include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivery of large scale, linear infrastructure projects in regional environments
  • Energy / Electricity project experience
  • Experience of government sponsored projects in a complex stakeholder environment
  • Experience in the development and delivery of brownfield infrastructure
  • Infrastructure program, commercial and project management expertise

It is expected that the Project Director has led professional teams or technical experts and can clearly communicate strategies, goals and priorities. Strong interpersonal skills are mandatory, as is the ability to develop functional relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or relevant equivalent experience in managing significant infrastructure projects is mandatory.
  • Direct government and/or energy sector experience is highly desired.
  • A strong desire to contribute to Australia's energy transition

About EnergyCo
NSW is transitioning to a cleaner future. Our ageing coal-fired power stations are reaching the end of their life. Some are closing faster than expected, with most due to shut in the next 10 years. At the same time, our demand for electricity is increasing as our population grows and we electrify our vehicles, homes, businesses and industry.

The NSW Government has a plan to ensure this demand is supplied by renewable energy and to provide cleaner, more affordable and reliable electricity to consumers. EnergyCo is leading the implementation of this plan, which involves:

  • generating electricity (wind and solar) in Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) across NSW
  • improving the reliability of the grid with new storage capacity (batteries and pumped hydro)
  • building new transmission infrastructure such as the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP) to deliver clean energy to consumers.
