Your position:A 3D Animation Layout Artist is responsible for translating 2D storyboards and animatics into 3D environments, setting up cameras, staging characters and props, and defining cinematic composition. Their work establishes the foundation for the final animation, ensuring visual continuity, storytelling clarity, and a seamless transition into production.
Key Responsibilities:- Convert 2D storyboards and animatics into 3D layouts, blocking out scenes with character positions and movement, props, and environmental placement.
- Set up and animate cameras to establish framing, angles, movement, and shot composition based on the director's vision.
- Maintain cinematic continuity between shots, ensuring smooth transitions and proper visual flow.
- Work closely with directors, cinematographers, animators, and VFX teams to develop compelling and immersive sequences.
- Optimize scene layouts to accommodate animation and lighting requirements while maintaining production efficiency.
- Adjust blocking, camera movement, and framing based on director feedback and storytelling needs.
- Ensure perspective, depth, and scale align with cinematic principles and production goals.
- Collaborate with editorial teams to refine pacing and timing before the animation process begins.
- Software Proficiency: Expertise in Autodesk Maya for camera layout and staging.
- Cinematic Understanding: Strong grasp of composition, cinematography, depth of field, and visual storytelling.
- Camera Animation: Ability to create dynamic and expressive camera movements that enhance the narrative.
- Collaboration & Communication: Experience working within a team of directors, supervisors, animators, and editors in a film production pipeline.
- Previsualization & Blocking: Ability to translate 2D concepts into 3D previsualization with proper character placement.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot technical and artistic issues related to shot composition and camera setup.
- Degree or diploma in Animation, Film Production, Visual Effects, or a related field.
- Experience in 3D layout for animated feature films or VFX productions.
- Knowledge of real-world cinematography techniques and how they apply to CG animation.
- Experience in Flow Production Tracking (former Shotgrid) is a plus.
Duration: Approximately 7 months
Payment: Our compensation is based on experience and according to the collective agreement.
