At the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the University of Graz is seeking to appoint a
Professor of Microbiology 2 (40 hours per week; selection procedure in accordance with Section 98 of the Universities Act (UG); permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date October 1st 2026)
The professorship to be filled is intended to strengthen and further develop the field of molecular microbiology at the Department of Molecular Biosciences. The focus of the professorship is on the study of host-microbe interactions and the microbiome in the gastrointestinal tract, incorporating functional models. The successful candidate is expected to establish and lead their own research group in this area, financed by third-party funds. The research profile of the successful candidate should align with, complement, and broaden the research activities at the IMB and molecular biosciences in Graz. Active involvement in the field of excellence "BioHealth", the excellence cluster "MetAGE", and BioTechMed-Graz will be facilitated.
Additionally, strong participation in the compulsory teaching duties at the Department of Molecular Biosciences (IMB) is required, with a particular focus on the master's programme in Molecular Microbiology and the bachelor's programme in Molecular Biology, as well as the supervision of master's and doctoral theses in Molecular Biology and Molecular Microbiology. Active participation in the inter-university research network NAWI Graz is expected. We also expect gender mainstreaming and diversity management skills.
