Intern - Programme Management & Administration

The OOSA-Office of the Director internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.
The internship has an envisaged start date in June/July 2023.The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Support the Space4Women programme. Coordinate activities of the mentorship programme such as events organization and community management. Support administration of UN/Canada expert meeting and conduct research on gender mainstreaming. Maintain Space4Women website and prepare social media posts.
- Support the Space Economy Initiative. Conduct research, prepare briefings and presentations.
- Prepare various written outputs of the Office, e.g. background papers, analytical and briefing notes, and sections of studies.
- Support, as necessary, the implementation of outreach activities originating from the Office of the Director, capacity building initiatives, including Office's outreach campaigns.
- Assist in the preparation of programme planning, budget and performance outputs.
- Draft background notes, papers, factsheets, spreadsheets and other documents in support of the Office's programme budget, fundraising activities and other administration obligations, including updating internal databases and other planning tools.
- Provide general administrative support, if needed.
- Perform other tasks as necessary

Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honours commitments. Delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards. Operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules. Supports subordinates, provides oversight and takes responsibility for delegated assignments. Takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) recently have graduated with a university degree (as defined above);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
The Cover Note must include:
- Degree Programme (What are you currently studying?)
- Graduation Date (When will you graduate or when did you graduate from the programme?)
- List the IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in.
- List your top three areas of interest.
- Explain your interest in the United Nations Internship Programme in general and this assignment in particular.
