Job Description:

The University of Innsbruck is looking to fill a PhD student position in the Department of Experimental Physics (Prof. Weihs) as soon as possible. This 'University Assistant' position, initially for 20 hours per week, will be extended to 30 hours per week after submission of the dissertation proposal and is limited to 4 years. The University of Innsbruck offers a competitive scientific environment in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information, focusing on photonic integrated circuits and semiconductor nanostructures for quantum optics and quantum communications tasks.

Main Tasks:
  • Conduct research towards a PhD thesis in quantum interferometry in quantum photonic integrated circuits
  • Teaching duties, student tutoring, administrative tasks, and outreach activities
  • 50% working time reserved for thesis work
Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in physics or related field
  • Proficiency in English, willingness to learn German
  • Experience in experimental quantum optics, lasers, and single photon detectors
  • Teamwork skills, creative problem-solving, and effective communication
Salary:

Minimum gross salary is €1789/month at 20h/week or €2684/month at 30h/week, paid 14 times per year.
