PhD Student / Junior Researcher in Control Engineering
at an employment level of 100% (40 hours / week) and a fixed-term employment contract of initially 3 years.
The institute focuses on model-based control of linear and nonlinear systems, with a particular emphasis on distributed parameter systems.
Current research topics include the time-optimal control of mechatronic systems in the semiconductor industry, the control of exhaust aftertreatment systems in large gas engines, topics in mobile robotics, and the control theory of distributed parameter systems.
As part of your employment at IACE, you will work on an industry-related research project on the development and implementation of advanced control algorithms for large gas engines for the energy sector.
Due to their flexibility, these engines play an important role in the energy transition, for example in the coverage of peak loads, the use of biogas or the compensation of temporary supply gaps in the renewable energy sector.
Your Tasks:
- physical and data-driven modelling of large gas engines and their exhaust gas aftertreatment systems
- design, parameterization, and implementation of control algorithms for large gas engines and their exhaust gas aftertreatment systems
- preparation of scientific journal and conference publications and presentations at scientific conferences in the above areas
- participation in university teaching (if applicable)
Your Profile:
- university diploma or master's degree in the fields of mechatronics, electrical engineering, cybernetics, systems engineering, mathematics, or physics
- excellent knowledge of systems theory and control (knowledge in Optimal Control or Machine Learning are beneficial)
- proficient use of simulation environments as Matlab or Python
- good programming skills (knowledge in the field of industrial control technology is desirable)
- willingness to closely work together with industry partners
The gross annual salary for this position is € 40,600.00.
