Organizational Setting


The goal of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to promote the efficient and safe utilization of nuclear power by assisting Member States in enhancing nuclear power plant performance, nuclear fuel cycle improvement, and nuclear waste management; fostering innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing national energy planning capabilities worldwide; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and sharing nuclear knowledge and information; and advancing science and industry through enhanced research reactor operation.

The department operates in a dynamic, participatory, and interactive environment, receiving input from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policymakers, technical counterparts in Member States, and the international development community.

The Division of Nuclear Power consists of the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section, the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section, and the INPRO (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) Section.

The Division offers essential engineering, technological, human resource development, and management support to Member States interested in nuclear power.

The Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section assists Member States in understanding the requirements for nuclear power program implementation, enhancing capabilities for constructing their first or new nuclear power plants, developing necessary infrastructure for safe and sustainable nuclear power introduction, and promoting the use of an internationally recognized approach for nuclear power introduction with a harmonized framework and qualitative data, coordinated through the IAEA.

Main Purpose


As a crucial team member of the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section under the guidance of the Section Head, the Nuclear Programme Developer is responsible for managing and maintaining databases of countries initiating nuclear power programs, gathering and disseminating information on new nuclear projects.

Moreover, he/she supports Member States in building national nuclear infrastructure and provides technical assistance, especially in infrastructure development.

Role


The Nuclear Programme Developer fulfills multiple key roles within the team: (1) as an information officer, planning and executing activities to aid Member States in long-term planning of nuclear energy and R&D programs using innovative nuclear technology or institutional approaches; (2) as a scientific secretary, organizing and leading meetings; (3) as an analyst, preparing background information and research for technical and review missions, and; (4) as a technical and project officer, backing technical cooperation (TC) projects.

Functions / Key Results Expected
  • Plan, develop, and implement an information management system to support the IAEA's activities with countries introducing nuclear power.
  • Plan and assist in complex technical and review missions to Member States, including preparatory and follow-up visits, such as INIR (Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review), and assessing Member States' needs.
  • Support complex TC projects, develop action plans, and organize seminars, workshops, expert missions, and training courses.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships and alliances with various stakeholders in Member States related to infrastructure for supporting new nuclear power programs.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders by maintaining the website, creating fact sheets and informational materials, and promoting the use of information technologies for networking facilitation.

Qualifications, Experience and Language Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • University degree in management, public policy, or international relations (preferably with a nuclear specialization) or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in nuclear engineering.
  • Previous experience working in a national/international nuclear organization or institute is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or coordinating international activities or projects.
  • Proficient in English, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is a plus.
Remuneration


The IAEA provides an attractive remuneration package comprising a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $64121 (subject to necessary deductions for pension and health insurance), a variable post adjustment amounting to US $ 36549, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation support, pension plan, and health insurance. Additionally, staff members enjoy 6 weeks of annual leave and home leave travel.
