Head of Sports Courses

At the University of Vienna almost 11,000 personalities work together towards answering the big questions of the future. Around 7,700 of them do research and teaching, around 3,000 work in administration and organisation. We are looking for a Head of Sports Courses.

Job details

Location: 59 Centre for Sport Science and University Sports. Start date: 01.10.2026. Working hours: 40 per week. Collective bargaining agreement: 48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) Limited until 28.02.2027 (Reference no.: 5882).

Responsibilities

• The conceptual design, structuring, and strategic development of the sports course program at the Schmelz location.
• Needs-based staff scheduling and deployment planning of the academic and instructional personnel (course instructors and coaches).
• Strategic management and continuous optimization of sports hall and outdoor facility utilization.
• Monitoring of compliance with the department budget, including profitability analyses.
• Regular analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) regarding course capacity utilization, preparation of decision‑making proposals, and implementation of quality assurance measures.
• End-to-end planning, organization, and coordination of the summer camps at the "Sport- und Seminarzentrum Dientnerhof".
• Teaching within the sports courses department (extent: 4 weekly contact hours).

Qualifications

• Completed university degree (Master’s, Magister) in Physical Education (Bewegung und Sport) or Sports Science, preferably with initial professional experience in sports management or sports coordination.
• State‑certified qualification as a sports instructor or coach, with prior experience in teaching sports courses independently.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills, independent working style, and commercial/economic thinking.
• Excellent communication skills, teamwork orientation, and well‑developed social competencies.
• Ability to handle temporary high‑pressure workloads, maintaining clear overview during peak periods.
• Comprehensive IT proficiency in MS Office and database management systems; familiarity with Moodle is an advantage.
• Excellent command of German; good command of English, both written and spoken.
