Project Engineer

Duration: Project for 6 months with option to extend (first project with 2nd project likely to follow).
Position Summary: Our client is an Australian public company headquartered in Brisbane. Their patented metal-ion-based technology is applied to improve the performance of next-generation lithium-ion batteries and in the development of diagnostic solutions in Life Sciences. They are seeking a skilled Project Engineer for a fixed-term contract to manage facility fit-out design and construction, equipment sourcing, and process engineering. Bring your expertise in project management, contractor oversight, and WHS compliance to drive success in battery manufacturing projects.
Scope of Work:
- Develop facility fit out requirements/specification
- Prepare Request for Tender Documents (with commercial support as required)
- Tender evaluation and Contractor selection (e.g., 2 quotes minimum)
- Contract negotiation (with commercial support as required)
- Management of Contractor (and other subcontractors as required)
- Stakeholder management e.g., building owner and consultants as required
- Project management of facility fit out end to end (via Contractor) including:
- Design review and approvals (including external approvals e.g., building approval via Contractor)
- Construction phase and final build approvals/certification (as required)
- Budget (e.g., variations) and schedule management
Process/Project Engineering:
- Optimize facility layout & process flow (input into design)
- Source/develop standard operating procedures (e.g., process/operations/maintenance documentation)
- Support startup and troubleshooting as required
- Ensure compliance with Workplace Health Safety (WHS)
- Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with Quality systems
Skills:
- 10-15 years’ experience minimum – mechanical/chemical/process engineer or similar
- Project management experience in similar projects e.g., pilot plants/lab facility & equipment setup
- Experience managing contractors and suppliers
- Experience working in compliance with WHS systems/processes (e.g., risk assessments etc.)
- Experience in battery manufacturing and testing desirable
