Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, it is a genuine occupational requirement of these positions to have a personal lived experience of caring for someone with a lived experience of mental illness and recovery (public or private).

CQMHAODS provides specialist mental health, substance, and alcohol related care to residents of Rockhampton, Capricorn Coast, Gladstone, Central Highlands and Banana areas, with services located in each area. About the role:

The Senior Carer Peer Coordinator will promote and give guidance to the development and ongoing management of carer and family participation and provide ‘systems advocacy' in relation to carer and family related issues.

About you:

Mandatory qualification/s: This position is available to individuals who have a personal ‘caring experience' for a family member with mental health issues, and knowledge and understanding of mental illness as a carer.

Non-mandatory qualifications/requirements: Experience in a mental health service or NGO carer role and/or involvement in mental health service planning, delivery and evaluation is highly desirable. Although not essential, it is highly desirable that applicants hold or are working towards obtaining a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent.

  • Understanding of carer and family related needs and ability to articulate this within a multidisciplinary team using high level communication skills to enhance service delivery.
  • Ability to network across consumer, carer, and community groups and with carer organisations at local, state, and national level.
  • Ability to develop carer and family initiatives and projects and develop reports for the mental health service.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $63,617 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $51.69 - $56.24 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
