How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…
Combining strategic foresight, analysis and deep engagement, the purpose of the Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division is to partner with our Traditional Owners, community and stakeholders to enable the city and organisation of the future to be imagined and realised.
This position sits within the Open Space Planning and Green Infrastructure team in the Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division. The team plans and delivers parks and city greening initiatives for the health and wellbeing of the community and the environment.
The purpose of the position is to effectively lead and guide the Open Space Planning portfolio within the Open Space Planning and Green Infrastructure team in the strategic delivery of annual work programs. Our Open Space Planners are experts in the strategic planning and management of the City’s iconic parks and gardens. The position will lead the Open Space Planners in the development and implementation of strategies and master plans, the application of policy to projects and development applications, and the management of uses and issues in open spaces. The position will support the Manager in the preparation of operational resourcing, corporate planning, budgetary and risk management, and projects.

In addition you will have…
- A relevant tertiary qualification in recreation or open space planning, landscape architecture or substantial relevant experience in an equivalent role.
- Demonstrated experience in land management and/or service management.
- Highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills with the demonstrated ability to drive strategy and affect change.
- Highly developed project management skills and demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects within timelines and budgets.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with an ability to represent Council in public forums and to negotiate positive outcomes.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain multidisciplinary networks across levels of government and professions to achieve open space and green infrastructure strategic objectives.
- Understanding of heritage conservation issues and principles, and demonstrated ability to work creatively in heritage environments is preferred.
- Local government experience is desirable.
