About the role

Better Homes and Gardens is Australia’s number one omni-channel brand, combining powerhouse print magazine, TV show, thriving digital and social channels and a dedicated e-commerce site. BHG magazine is seeking a full-time chief sub editor who will be responsible for copy editing and streamlining all text to ensure it is clear, concise, accurate and lively. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Copy Editor, Homes.

Duties

  • Copy edit layouts, including writing heads, sells and captions
  • Work with writers and artists to produce features to BHG style and standard
  • Contribute editorial features as required/where time allows
  • Provide writers with clear, concise and constructive feedback
  • Approve pages for print, check dyelines and printed sections

Skills and experience

  • Previous experience as a chief sub-editor or senior copy editor across print and digital platforms
  • At least 5 years in a senior role with experience in lifestyle content, ideally with experience in copy editing DIY/craft/food/gardening/decorating
  • Experience in SEO optimisation
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment yet be self-directed
