Spinifex State College - Mount Isa Education and Training Precinct are seeking applications for a Head of Department (Secondary) to join their school community on a full-time permanent basis.

As the Head of Department with a focus on Teaching and Learning-Student Services, you will develop, implement and lead a whole campus (7 to 9) wellbeing program to assist students in their academic, social, emotional and cultural growth.

This is a key leadership role in fulfilling the College's values of Inspire success, Createopportunities, Build Resilience and Empower Community.

Spinifex State College is a three campus educational facility. Our Junior Campus caters to years 7-9, Senior Campus years 10-12 and the Residential Campus houses all boarding students.

About the Role

This role will focus on providing wellbeing opportunities for all students while also allowing case management for students identified as requiring support for engagement. Reporting to the Deputy Principal, you will work collaboratively with school leaders, key staff and the community in order to deliver a comprehensive student-centred program aligned to the school priorities and strategic plan. You will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with the community, stakeholders, students and other key staff members.

As the Head of Department - Student Services, you will have responsibility for but not limited to the following:

  • Focus on initiatives to support the educational outcomes for students.
  • Incorporate the vision of Early Childhood and State Schools Division into school planning.
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and community.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Where requested, prepare all data returns for the Principal.
  • Provide management and engagement strategies including induction activities of new arrivals, and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of new arrivals.
  • Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Communicate and work with parents, staff, higher education institutes and State Schools Division to develop strategies to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.
