Following a recent promotion we are now looking to fill a critical leadership opportunity in the role of Head Of Strategy. This role is responsible for leading high value strategy projects that drive a significant benefit for Jetstar and the Qantas Group. Working closely with the direction of the Board, CEO, CFO and Leadership Team, this role will be responsible for leading complex and detailed analytical reviews of the current business and industry performance and developing opportunities for improvement and growth of the business.

Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer and leading a team of both direct and indirect reports to solve for critical and challenging objectives, responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and developing strategic project proposals, scoping and leading approved projects and working in partnership with Group business owners to implement strategic recommendations and realise value for the business and customers
  • Managing and coaching Strategy Managers, Consultants and Analysts and mentor key business talent to build the Strategy team and Jetstar's internal strategic capability
  • Developing and utilising a detailed understanding of the Jetstar business and continuously developing strategies to maximise shareholder value
  • Providing expert strategic advice and support to the Board, the CEO, GLT and senior management
  • Leading the Jetstar Group strategy across the Jetstar Branded Airlines and provide particular strategic and financial advice for Jetstar Australia and to our overseas airlines including Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Asia
  • Supporting driving the ongoing Jetstar Transformation plan, in particular identifying strategic cost reductions and opportunities for change and innovation
  • Supporting the Jetstar liaison with Qantas Group Procurement Airports team on Aviation charges and Airport strategy and championing opportunities for cost reduction
  • Supporting the Jetstar Operation and ongoing resilience, identifying operational and OTP improvements and directing support to the office of our Chief Operating Officer
  • Providing strategic support to the Jetstar commercial business and Domestic Executive, including long-term network and related fleet impacts, competitor analysis, strategic assessment of lines of business (Dom, Int, LHI, SHI, NZ) and provide customer and product support and analysis, including specification of fleet and product
  • Developing strategic planning processes and support robust strategic analysis and planning
  • Developing and/or evaluating beneficial and/or profitable strategic opportunities
  • Identifying strategic risks and mitigation strategies
  • Developing and supporting Management Board updates
  • Monitoring and providing feedback to the Board, CEO, GMC & senior leaders on Qantas, Group & competitor strategy.


Ready for your next adventure? We’re on the hunt for someone who:

  • Has a degree qualification, ideally with post graduate qualifications such as an MBA
  • Brings significant experience in management/ strategy consulting, preferably with a top tier Strategy Consulting firm
  • Has strong experience in leading project teams and developing staff
  • Has exposure to presenting Board Papers, discussing business and competitor strategy, presenting proposals and/or business plans to large and complex businesses
  • Brings exceptional understanding of business processes and extensive experience in commercial and /or operational business functions
  • Has superior strategy development, financial, communications and project management skills
  • Has a thorough understanding of strategic evaluation and financial evaluation techniques
  • Has proven ability to quickly identify issues, structure project plans and develop strategic options
  • Brings a strong customer-oriented approach with an ability to question and challenge effectively whilst maintaining strong relationships
  • Is able to demonstrate a broad appreciation of wider strategic issues and drivers which shape the aviation industry.
