The MATES in Construction program is based on the idea that “suicide is everyone’s business” and that if the building and construction industry in Australia is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of workers and to reduce suicide then it cannot be left to the mental health professionals, but rather everyone in the industry must play their part. It is based on community development models aimed at creating structures on construction sites; connecting workers in need to high quality help.
Their help-offering model builds a community of people who can look out for support and each other – “mates looking out for mates” – rather than providing a service people need to go looking for.
Mates SA require an experienced Operations Manager to join their team here in Adelaide. This is a hands-on role that involves overseeing the team and meeting operational targets, while performing regular Field Officer duties reporting to the CEO. Full training on Field Officer will be available for the successful candidate.
Skills and experience:
- Manage day-to-day operational activities of direct reports – 5
- Manage development training, staffing levels and holiday planning for all operational personnel including regular team and one-on-one meetings with direct reports
- Promote and grow regional training in line with CSAPHN funding and other requirements
- Build and maintain strong networks and service delivery partnerships with other organisations, agencies, councils and government in SA, and other industry stakeholders
- Identify new opportunities, fundraising initiatives and Industry Partnerships
- Assist with development of organisational strategies and forward planning with CEO and Board
- Manage the quality and integrity of training delivery
- Conduct suicide interventions and deliver General Awareness Training, Connector, ASIST and other training/presentations as required
- Exceptional customer service, negotiation and influence skills
- Strong and articulate written and verbal communication skills
- High level of organisational and leadership skills
- Professional approach and personal accountability
- Resilience, compassion for others and an ability to thrive under pressure
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or Diploma in Leadership and Management – desirable however, not essential
Apart from your superior organisational and management skills you will also enjoy taking training groups and have a high level of empathy. You will the ability to work well within a small team, have previous experience in a similar role and have a passion to make a difference in people’s lives.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the right individual. Excellent working conditions apply and a competitive remuneration package including a fully maintained company car, 5 weeks’ annual leave and a RDO every month. The role will require regional travel, current driver’s license, National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
