What will you be doing?
Reporting to the General Manager of Operations and Member Services the Policy and Governance Principal is accountable for developing and managing robust compliance frameworks, ensuring the organisation meets all our government requirements.
The Policy and Governance Principal will be responsible for internal audits, risk management and mitigating actions and ensure our internal policies remain relevant, effective and aligned with best practices and legislative changes.
The Policy and Governance Principal will provide expert advice on legal and regulatory matters and support the CEO, the Board and the General Manager of Operations and Member Services in strategic matters.
More specifically, you will:
- Develop and manage robust compliance frameworks tailored to the organisation's needs.
- Monitor compliance and governance activities across the organisation regularly, providing detailed reports to senior management and relevant stakeholders on progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Conduct risk assessments across various operational areas and implement targeted mitigation strategies to minimise potential impacts.
- Oversee internal audits, ensuring all activities and processes comply with established governance standards and implement corrective actions and enhancements to strengthen organisational integrity.
- Lead the preparation and development of comprehensive board papers and executive briefings.
- Lead the ongoing development and systematic review of organisational policies, ensuring they remain relevant, effective, and aligned with best practices, legislative changes, and organisational goals.
- Spearhead key projects ensuring project objectives are clearly defined, resources are efficiently utilised, and outcomes are positive.
Must haves
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- An established and current understanding of compliance roles and legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in risk management and compliance frameworks.
- A self-starter who takes the initiative is able to work autonomously and can manage timelines and competing priorities while maintaining effective stakeholder communication and engagement.
- Can adapt and thrive in an environment that is fast-paced and, at times, has a level of ambiguity.
- Values diversity and actively contributes to a respectful and fun workplace.
If you also happen to have any or all of the following, that would be a bonus
- Tertiary qualification relevant to the position
- Working knowledge and experience in the Australian mining and automotive industry or Federal or State Government
- Working knowledge of Australia’s Vocational Education and Training system
- Previous experience working in a small, national team

The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is one of 10 Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC) funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

- Workforce planning
We partner with industry, government, RTO's and unions to help meet the mining and automotive sectors' workforce capability requirements. We play a pivotal role in ensuring Australia's VET system is responsive to the changing needs of industry and the Australian economy.
