Are you looking for the next step in your career? We’re looking for a Manager, Operational Risk to join our Operational Risk team for a 6 month contract period. A great introduction into our organisation, this position can be based in either Brisbane, Toowoomba or Adelaide.

About the role 

As the Manager, Operational Risk you will provide subject matter expertise on operational risk, conduct risk and emerging risks across all merger and integration related activities, and play a lead role in key programs of work such as the Integrated Remediation Plan and CPS230 readiness. This role will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the policies, frameworks and procedures owned by the Operational Risk team to ensure the smooth and effective operation of our business. 

Additionally, you will be a Business Partner to the Chief Information Office and Merger Integration Office and support our organisation’s outsourcing and procurement activities.

Other key responsibilities include: 

  • Contributing to operational risk related policies to ensure the commercial application of risk, regulatory and legislative requirements in line with business strategy and risk appetite. 
  • Monitoring and escalating operational risks, control weaknesses or incidents required. 
  • Preparing accurate, timely and relevant risk management reports for Management/Board committees.
  • Supporting strategy formulation, execution, and continuous improvement in all aspects of operational risk management.
  • Contributing to research by analysing significant changes in rules and regulations, statutory, economic, political, social, or technological changes and trends regarding non-financial risks in the financial services industry.
  • Ensuring the organisation’s risk appetite in relation to operational risk within the business is clearly articulated, communicated, and understood to promote the optimisation of the risk/reward balance.
  • Providing second line review and challenge over line one risk identification & assessments.
  • Identifying emerging issues and facilitating regular deep dives on areas of heightened risk.

About You

You are a motivated and passionate individual with well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence senior stakeholders. Your work history will also demonstrate: 

  • Appropriate industry experience in contemporary operational risk management practices, frameworks, and systems. 
  • Sound understanding of regulatory and compliance obligations in financial services. 
  • Expertise in understanding and responding to impacts from changes in regulation and legislation and assessing the required changes to existing practices and knowledge across the organisation. 
  • Sound capability, deductive reasoning and problem-solving techniques including the ability to make professional judgments on whether a sufficient level of analysis has occurred to support decision making. 
  • Self-motivated to learn, with a commitment to personal and professional development. 
  • Engaging, supportive, curious, and collaborative attitude that contributes positively to Risk Culture.
