The Opportunity

We are looking for an experiencedsenior lawyer to join our general insurance team in our highlyregarded government division on a full-time basis. This role willfocus on defendant institutional abuse claims and encompasses bothcasework and the crucial responsibility of mentoring and supervisingjunior lawyers within the practice area.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and manage a diversecaseload of defendant institutional abuse claims, ensuringexceptional client representation and successful outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with the legalteam to develop strategic defence approaches and tactics.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, andsupervision to junior lawyers, assisting in their professionalgrowth and development.
  • Represent clients in negotiations,mediations, and court proceedings with expertise and confidence.
  • Offer ongoing legal advice andsupport to clients throughout the entire litigation process.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role youwill have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalentand a current New South Wales practising certificate.
  • Minimum 8 years' post admissionexperience in general insurance matters.
  • Strong command of Australian tortlaw, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to effectivelymentor and supervise junior lawyers, fostering their growth and success.
  • Exceptional research, analytical,and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbalcommunication abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptionalorganisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to workautonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectivelywith experts in multiple fields.
  • A commercial approach and abilityto articulate and negotiate effectively; and
