Progress your career in Psychology or Counselling.
We can assist you to progress through AHPRA’s now retired 4+2 pathways and the current 5+1 pathways toward professional registration. As a Counsellor or Psychotherapist, we can also support your pursuit of registration with various regulatory bodies.
Freedom and Flexibility
You will have the freedom of scheduling your own hours and working independently. There is no minimum or maximum amount of time you need to dedicate to Sykee. We’re incredibly skilled at personalising your roster around your availabilities. You can make Sykee work for you, so we can assist as many in need of specialised mental health support services as possible.
Qualification / Tertiary Education Certificate
A successful National Police Check
A cleared Working with Children’s Check
A current Australian Driver’s License and ownership or on-demand use of a roadworthy vehicle
Current Mental Health First Aid Certificate (preferable but not mandatory)
Ability to meet the psychosocial and physical requirements of the role

We assure you get work within 30 minutes of where you live, or less. We service the Greater Sydney area. Any travel related expenses are fully reimbursed including; tolls, parking fees, travel time, and each km travelled.
Typically the role includes:
Offering mentoring, companionship and social support
Assisting clients with community re-engagement and therapy coaching
Transporting and accompanying clients to and from appointments
Working individually with clients to assist and achieve therapeutic goals.

What is required to apply for a Psychosocial Support Worker?Essential requirements to become a Psychosocial Support Worker at Sykee:
- Patience and a compassionate nature to help others
- Degree/Diploma in Psychology, Counselling, social work, or other mental health disability and care related qualification
- Previous experience working with people that have mental health conditions.
- National Police Check (mandatory)
- Working with Children’s Check (if applicable)
- A current Australian Driver’s License (mandatory)
Yes, at Sykee, we do charge provider travel for the support worker to come out to the client.

Are the support workers employees of Sykee?Yes, all workers are Sykee employees.
What does being a Sykee Psychosocial Support Worker involve?A Sykee Psychosocial Support Worker is there to assist clients with any psychosocial challenges they may be facing. Sessions may involve going for walks with your client, grabbing a bite to eat, participating in recreational activities or accompanying them to appointments. Having an understanding of mental health is highly beneficial if your clients decide to discuss their concerns with you. Helping your clients build on their confidence and overall independence by demonstrating empathy, patience, understanding and being an active listener are just some qualities we look for in our support workers.
What will my clients be like?Our clients live with a range of mental health disorders and/or developmental or learning disabilities. In turn, they are compromised in what they can do independently and require that little bit of extra support. Our clients range in ages from young children to the elderly.
How many clients will I be supporting?As many as you feel comfortable You will start with one client, however as you participate in more sessions and if you feel like you are happy to take on more clients, the choice is yours.
How long will the sessions with my clients go for?The length of sessions can be different depending on the level of support your clients require, as well as their individual needs and requests. The minimum requirement for any support session is two hours. Sessions can go for as long as the client feels necessary and you will be notified of their expected session times before you agree to work with them.
What will my schedule look like?Once you have met your client and you are both happy to move forward with support, together you will arrange a recurring schedule. Most commonly, our clients meet with our support workers once a week. However, there are circumstances where sessions will occur fortnightly, monthly or as a 'one off', as well as up to several times per week.
Will I be required to work weekends or nights?Sykee operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. This means that we are available to clients on weekends as well as through the working week. Whether or not you wish to work on weekends or nights is totally up to you.
What will I need in order to be a Psychosocial Support worker at Sykee?You will need a degree in psychology or counselling OR a certificate in Mental Health with relevant work experience. Oh, and a strong desire to want to help others
What support is available to me from the Sykee management team?The team here at Sykee are available to you 24/7 for any kind of support you may need. Each member of our team has a degree in psychology, allowing us to support you the best way we can. Each role in management is specific and specialised which enables us to provide the most effective assistance relevant to your query or concern.
