This is a hands-on role with emphasis on providing team lead as required to ensure technical assistance and best in class support for the customer site maintenance teams and WesTrac project work group. The Drill Specialist is the link between the Customer, WesTrac and Caterpillar for all drill technical product information, documentation, and continuous improvement concepts within the Operations maintenance Drill support role. The successful candidate must possess the following skills and experience:- At least 10 years industry experience operating a variety of HDD rigs for major Gas, Water, Sewer and Telecommunications pipeline projects.- Experienced in drilling in challenging ground conditions including rock, mud, sand, shale, and proximity to water courses.- Experience in both Gyro and magnetic Wireline steering systems.Mechanical aptitude.- Ability to work autonomously and within a team.- Have excellent written and verbal skills.- Strong commitment to Safe Work Practices.- A good understanding of Australian WHS and Environmental Legislation, Codes of Practice and Technical Specifications.The successful candidate shall optimise drilling operations by ensuring our organisation delivers projects as per design, on time and within budget.Key duties include:- Coordinating with Senior Management to efficiently organise recourses (staff, plant, equipment & material) to ensure preparation, site set-up, maintenance and construction activities meet program schedules, milestones, and pricing arrangements.- Taking samples of soil and send them away for testing.- Dismantling, moving and re-assembling drilling rigs and accessory plant.- Performing maintenance, repairs and cleaning plant.- Managing HDD and Mud mixing fluids techniques.- Mitigating Environmental Impacts of the different HDD methods in varying ground conditions.- Identification and protection of existing Infrastructure and utilities.- Coordinating Daily Pre-Start and weekly toolbox meetings.- Liaising with Stakeholders.- Proactive and innovative approach to problem solving including resolving unexpected design and technical difficulties and other sites issues that may arise.- Managing WHS & E standards and practices.- Stopping, rejecting or quarantining unsafe work methods, work areas, materials, plant and equipment and complying with statutory reporting procedures.- Ensure project documents, records and files are complete and preserved.- Ensuring compliance with company Policies and Procedures.The successful candidate must be willing to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and willing to travel, including working in rural/remote areas. We have several roles available for multiple locations across Australia.Key responsibilities:* Drill and supervise on multiple drilling operations ensuring they are undertaken in a safe, efficient, cost effective and professional manner.* Impart knowledge and leadership standards, including safety culture, personal presentation, training, following instructions and client relationships.* Deliver training and support to Driller Assistants/Trainee Drillers/Drillers in the field and workshop.* Project/client liaison and coordination at field level.* Participation and successful completion of training and induction requirements as they arise.* Communicate areas of improvement and best practice ideas to J&S Drilling Management.* Compliance and duty of care in accordance with ESHMS and project safety documentation.* Perform tasks and procedures in accordance with J&S Drilling SWP’s.Qualifications & Requirements:Mandatory requirements:* A passion for drilling* Able to work outdoors in extreme environments* Enjoy travel and accept flexibility with work rosters* HR (unrestricted or above preferred)* Current Police Clearance (or willing and able to obtain)* Construction White Card (or willing and able to obtain)* Ability to pass and maintain pre-employment medical including ongoing drug and alcohol screening* Strong OHS awareness & work ethicOther skills and training that will be considered in high regard:* Cert III in Drilling Operations* Water Well Licence, Class 1, 2 or 3* Current Senior First Aid Certificate* Leadership courses* Mine site familiar* Forklift HRWL* Dogging & Rigging HRWLSalary: $120k to $150k per year
