HBT GmbH, headquartered in Luenen, NRW, Germany, is a world class machine manufacturer and fully integrated single solution provider - specialising in systems and equipment for underground coal mining. The company exports its high-performance longwall mining equipment to all major mining markets worldwide. 

HBT delivers the customers’ longwall system of choice for underground coal mining, from low to high seam heights, for the highest performance demands. Adapted to meet the mining challenges faced by the longwall mining industry today, HBT systems for longwall mining include, high-horsepower shearers, automated plow systems, armoured face conveyors (AFC), beam stage loaders (BSL), drive systems incl. gearboxes, motors and VFD, hydraulic roof support legs & cylinders, electro-hydraulic, mining controls, high-pressure and water and drive systems spray pump stations. All HBT equipment adds additional value to the customer as it is supported and controlled by intelligent solutions at the leading edge of longwall automation.

The core HBT facilities have the capability for research, develop, design, manufacture, and test longwall mining equipment inhouse. All HBT products and systems are produced to the highest standards and compliant to international regulatory requirements. 

In addition to machine manufacturing, HBT manufactures high-quality OE parts and provides world-class support services for their equipment. 

HBT Waratah is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery, Waratah OEM Equipment and general Mining equipment overhauls.

Position Purpose:

This position of Quality Assurance supervisor will be hands on inspection of goods and material also raising NCR’s, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across the production side of HBT’s services. Your primary responsibility will be to implement and oversee robust quality assurance processes to guarantee that our deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards. 

You will provide guidance, support, and expertise to drive continuous improvement and maintain a culture of quality excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

This position reports to Engineering Manager and is responsible for:-

  • Compliance: manage the Quality systems at the operational site ensure maintenance and compliance of ISO9001, plan and manage certification activities according to AS 3800 and AS 3584 and manage compulsory regulatory requirements according to OD 005 (TestSafe) & MP 87.2 (DPI). Assist in the regulatory certification requirements ensuring supply of compliant equipment for use in NSW underground mines in conjunction with the Certification Engineers.
  • Establish Quality Standards: Contributes to the reputation of HBT by ensuring that all products and services provided to customers (either by HBT or a supplier) meet the required customer specifications and HBT standards. Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output.
  • Implement Quality Assurance Processes and Policy: Provide a range of project management and support services, contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives on quality assurance. Provide guidance on the use of the HBT’s Document at Operation site. 
  • Quality Audits and Reviews: Improve HBT site processes through the effective resolution of issues (internally and externally) and by continuously improving the existing systems, utilizing the audit program. Provide auditing, inspection.
  • Quality Financial Analysis: Minimise the cost of rework by ensuring the adherence to the company's Quality Management Systems and processes. Contribute to the overall profit of HBT by monitoring and where possible, minimise operational expenditure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ensure the development of competent workforce by effective and appropriate recruitment, training and development of employees and ensure that a quality product is provided, through the provision of quality and technical training are identified for the relevant personnel.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with key internal and external stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings and stakeholder consultations, providing timely advice and information, along with negotiating and influencing strategies. Independently contributing to the integrity of systems and data for a variety of competing technical tasks on behalf of both internal and external clients.
  • Risk Management: Minimise the potential risk to HBT NSW region, by implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient Quality Management System to the ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Quality Culture Promotion: Embed the Quality philosophy into HBT NSW
  • Understanding of Quality systems, Engineering Mechanics, Metallurgy, Hydraulics, Weldment and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
  • Experience with equipment in underground Coal Mines.
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics.
  • Ability to Fault Find and Diagnose problems.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong logical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Detail oriented.

  • Trade Qualification (Mechanical / Electrical / Fabrication)
