About the Role

The Commercial and Contracts Officer is responsible for assisting the management of contracts to enhance supplier performance and supporting complex commercial negotiations to achieve value-for-money outcomes. This role involves resolving commercial, contractual, and potential legal disputes, building collaborative stakeholder relationships, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Legal Management: Assist in ensuring all contractual and commercial activities are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. Support the legal team in interpreting contract terms and conditions and resolving legal disputes.
  • Contract Claims Resolution: Assist the Commercial Advisor in resolving supplier commercial disputes, coordinating with stakeholders to effectively analyse and formalise amicable commercial and contract disputes.
  • Commercial Management: Support the Commercial Advisor in complex commercial negotiations to achieve value for money outcomes.
  • Contract Management: Apply policies to develop and implement contract management systems to improve supplier performance and achieve business outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong and collaborative relationships with key suppliers, contract and project managers, project leads, and relevant team members. Assist in conducting amicable and effective commercial and contract negotiations.
  • Improved Capability: Enhance the role and the team's capabilities to effectively manage the pipeline of works, ensuring technical and commercial requirements are met as needed.
  • Team Advocacy: Encourage and maintain a collaborative and safe work environment with team members. Contribute to team planning and achieving shared goals and prioritized delivery commitments.

The ideal candidate excels in partnering and co-creation, building and maintaining partnerships to achieve objectives while fostering team commitment and trust. They are adept at project delivery, translating strategies into actionable programs with defined governance to manage risks and ensure success. With strong business and commercial acumen, they maximize ROI in business cases and contracts, informed by procurement and finance principles. Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification and experience in Commercial, Contract or Legal Management
  • Proficiency using Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Project), Oracle Cloud, Zycus, and the ability to interpret government policy and legislation is desirable
  • CAMMS and P6 experience is also desirable
  • Experience working in Victorian Government related agencies
