Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts
Truth Telling & Healing Inquiry; Office of Deputy Director-General; Strategic Policy Legislation and Program Reform; Brisbane City
The Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry will be hosted by the Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and Arts from 1 July 2024.
The Inquiry presents a unique opportunity in Queensland’s history to reframe the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders, and non-Indigenous Queenslanders.
Associates will provide the Inquiry Chair or a Member with high-level, confidential administrative, legal and executive support. This role requires an articulate, energetic, and resilient individual who can build positive and professional relationships.
We're looking to find the person best suited for the role. We will choose this person by undertaking a holistic assessment and considering what you have done previously - the knowledge, skills and experience you have built, your ability to lead, your potential to make a key contribution to the future of Queensland, your personal qualities and how they contribute to building a diverse workforce that complements existing teams and reflects the diverse views, experiences and backgrounds of all Queenslanders.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct legal research as directed by the Inquiry Chair or Member, utilising various resources such as legislation, case law, academic literature, and other relevant materials.
• Prioritise and manage workloads effectively to ensure that legal research requests are completed accurately and within the specified timeframes.
• Provide thorough document review, including drafting and revising legal documents, memoranda, and correspondence, as well as proofreading to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to legal writing standards.
• Assist in the preparation of papers and other content as required by the Inquiry Chair or Member, conducting necessary research, drafting, and editing to ensure the material is well-structured, informative, and aligns with the Inquiry Chair or Member's objectives.
• Provide comprehensive administrative support, including managing schedules, arranging meetings and travel and preparing agendas and minutes as needed.
• Ensure inquiries are promptly acknowledged, tracked, and responded to in a professional and timely manner.
• Collaborate closely with other Members and staff of the Inquiry on various administrative tasks and projects related to the Inquiry's operations, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
• Accompany the Member to Truth Telling Hearings and Truth Telling Sessions as required, providing support by taking notes, managing documents and assisting with any other tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of the proceedings.
• Prepare briefing materials, summaries, and other documentation related to the hearings and sessions, ensuring that the Inquiry Chair or Member has access to all relevant information and is well-prepared for their role in the proceedings.
• Foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with other Members, Inquiry staff, and members of the public who engage with the Inquiry, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Exercise a high level of discretion and maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the engagement and the conduct of the Inquiry, adhering to all relevant legal and ethical standards.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the Inquiry's objectives and values, working collaboratively with others to support the Inquiry's mission and contribute to its success.
• Positively contribute to a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
• This role may be required to travel to rural, regional, and remote locations.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
