About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate skill and ability in all aspects of specialist orthodontic treatment including diagnosis and specialist orthodontic treatment planning for all malocclusions including cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomaly cases.
  • Demonstrate high level knowledge of all aspects of the contemporary practice of orthodontics including the co-ordination, planning and treatment of cleft lip/palate cases, craniofacial anomaly cases and orthognathic surgery cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach to the management of these cases.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise and organise workloads and, where appropriate, to take initiative. Personal commitment to service developmental activities incorporating client focus. Ability to work effectively and supportively within a team-work environment.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will manage the Cairns and Hinterland Oral Health Services by providing diagnosis and treatment planning of complex malocclusions and comprehensive specialist orthodontic management and treatment to eligible clients, and advice on orthodontic case selection and treatment planning to dentists across fixed and mobile facilities. The incumbent is required to act with a substantial degree of professional independence in meeting the objectives of the position. The Senior Specialist Orthodontist reports to the Oral Health Director Cairns for operational, procedural and policy matters. 

About your role:

  • Manage the Cairns and Hinterland Oral Health Orthodontic Service by providing diagnosis and treatment planning of complex malocclusions and comprehensive specialist orthodontic management and treatment to eligible clients.
  • Facilitate and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team management of eligible clients with complex treatment requirements, including orthognathic surgery or management of clients with cleft lip and/or palate and other cranio-facial anomalies.
  • Co-ordinate and contribute to the continuing education and professional development of members of the oral health team by updating skills and knowledge at seminars, lectures and by using other appropriate educational tools, in conjunction with Oral Health Management Team

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

We provide most specialised health services. A small number of our high-level acute services are done in Townsville and Brisbane.
