The role

The Accounting Advisor, Sustainability will assist the Head of Accounting and the accounting risk team in addressing key challenges associated with Sustainability related financial risks.

You will have a focus on the integration of sustainability related matters particularly the Australian Sustainability Related Reporting Framework within the prudential framework across APRA regulated industries.

The role will also entail working with colleagues across APRA including Policy, Supervision, Data and the Climate Risk Team. Supervisory team members and APRA's domestic and international engagement would also need to be supported as needed.

The team

The Accounting Risk team is a cross-industry advisory function that offers accounting and assurance advice on financial reporting and sustainability related matters and its linkages with the prudential framework. The team supports various parts of APRA in delivering its mandate in line with the government policy Agenda.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the reporting and assurance advisory function on sustainability related matters and connecting between Australian sustainability reporting and assurance, prudential requirements and regulatory disclosures;
  • Contributing to the appropriate integration of climate-related developments based on international and local developments to support APRA's ongoing engagement on climate risk;
  • Where appropriate, leading engagement with domestic and international stakeholders on climate-related risk issues;
  • Contribute to thinking on complex and ambiguous challenges impacting entity understanding of climate-related risks, particularly the connectivity between sustainability reporting, prudential requirements and regulatory disclosures; and
  • Builds capability across APRA by actively sharing knowledge, training and mentoring others.

About you

  • Professional qualifications in relevant field e.g. accounting/finance related discipline, or certified financial analyst;
  • Knowledge and understanding of climate risk, or a strong willingness to rapidly upskill in climate risk;
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and problem solve while being able to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the business, in a professional team environment;
  • Exposure in dealing with data and bringing an analytical and strategic mindset when there is an absence of perfect information would be an advantage;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions and
  • A positive and curious mindset, a willingness to learn and offer new ideas with a fresh perspective.
