The Group: Morningstar’s Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The Research group also provides data on hundreds of thousands of investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles, along with real-time global market data on millions of equities, indexes, futures, options, commodities, and precious metals, in addition to foreign exchange and Treasury markets.

The Role: Morningstar Manager Research has a requirement for an Analyst to play a key role in researching fund managers that oversee managed funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and listed investment companies (LICs). The research process involves critically analysing fund managers, writing research reports, and managing relationships with fund managers. This role will be based in our Sydney office.
Responsibilities:
+ To manage analytical assignments on investments, managed funds and products.
+ To research and critically assess fund managers and their products.
+ To write succinct and reader-friendly research reports.
+ To lead fund manager interviews.
+ To play a role in formulating and justifying our opinions on investment strategies.
+ To write articles including sector wrap up reports.
+ Your duties and responsibilities require you, amongst other things, to make yourself available to perform work outside of your regular working hours (including in respect of different time zones).
Requirements:
+ A passion for investing, demonstrated through personal knowledge of and interest in investment markets.
+ Strong critical reasoning skills (past experience in high school or university debating is viewed favourably), and a preparedness to challenge the status quo with well informed opinions.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, ideally with the ability to think and write creatively.
+ Knowledge of the fund manager research process, ideally across multiple asset classes.
+ Ability to use own initiative, work unsupervised and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines.
+ Proactive aptitude to building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar.
+ Strong attention to detail with proven analytical skills.
+ Undergraduate degree, preferably in a finance or business-related discipline, with an interest in pursuing CFA or other relevant postgraduate studies.
