We’re looking to further accelerate our growth in both markets in 2024 and beyond, and we’re seeking a Lead Back End Engineer to deliver new products to market for our customers.

The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Back End Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of our back-end infrastructure and logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to client requests. This role demands a deep understanding of back-end technologies, architecture, and best practices.

As a Lead Back-End Engineer, you will manage a team of developers, set best practices, and contribute to system architecture and design. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions, driving innovation and continuous improvement. Your leadership will be crucial in mentoring junior engineers, conducting code reviews, and troubleshooting complex issues. You will also have involvement in liaising with the customer directly, working closely with technical stakeholders and presenting Kablamo’s work at showcases.

Key Responsibilities

Our Technical Leads are the engineering thought leaders for Kablamo and they set the standard for technical excellence in our organisation. They are also leaders in the way they behave, how they mobilise and lead teams and the way they coach teammates and customers. Our Leads may specialise in one area of software development, yet we expect a breadth of knowledge and understanding across all areas of the SDLC to ship great products.

Technical Leads fulfil several critical functions for Kablamo:

• Lead and develop Kablamo’s application/solution architecture and standards
• Contribute to full-stack enterprise architecture practices and internal product development
• Follow and enhance Kablamo’s agile methodology and processes
• Develop performant back end applications, integrations and APIs
• Guide product development processes and technical decision making
• Develop and deliver application architecture thought leadership and subject matter expertise for Kablamo clientele
• Provide technical expertise and solutions in a pre-sales and consulting capacity, as required
• Assist in pre-sales and consulting, and execute solutions at a Lead level across client accounts
• Be a point of escalation and direct point of contact for Kablamite’s and customers
• Work with Kablamo strategic partners (especially AWS) to understand and implement bleeding edge solutions and partner best practices
• Participating in the hiring process for new employees, which encompasses reviewing technical tests, conducting interviews, and collaborating with team leads to ensure a thorough evaluation and selection of candidates
• Lead, mentor and coach engineers across multiple disciplines (full stack, front end, devops, mobile)
• Foster high performance, career growth, and technical skill diversification within the team
• Be accountable for technical outcomes
• Provide knowledge sharing and thought leadership in areas such as Cloud, AI, engineering best practices and workplace culture
• Represent Kablamo at public events (conferences, meetups, media, speaking engagements, hackathons etc.)

Required skills and experience:

• 7+ years’ experience in software engineering, software architecture and systems design.
• 3+ years’ experience leading high performance engineering teams
• Production experience building microservices in Go (or willingness to learn assuming experience in other languages)
• Solid Knowledge of OOP, Design Patterns, Dependency Injection
• Deep understanding and experience with at least one major cloud provider, preferably AWS.
• Advanced understanding of agile practices including: Code versioning, CI/CD, Automated quality practices.
• Strong experience with testing platforms, unit testing, and end to end testing
• Experience with serverless development
• Experience with Databases and Database integration
• Experience with Git including merging, rebasing and pull-request branch strategy
• Experience with scripting tools and automated deployments
• Experience working in a continuous integration environment eg. TeamCity, Bamboo
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to work well in a team environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional organisational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanour
• Ability to think critically and make informed decisions

• Experience working with external clients in a consulting capacity
• Exposure to Docker
• Exposure to load testing tools
