Queensland Treasury have an exciting newly created role to drive the future of privacy compliance and governance. As the Manager, Privacy, you will oversee and manage Treasury’s privacy strategies, ensuring adherence to statutory obligations under relevant frameworks. This role presents a unique chance to lead Treasury through the adoption of the new Queensland Privacy Principles and the Mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme.

Your new opportunity
Join Queensland Treasury in a newly created pivotal role where your expertise in privacy management will shape the future of privacy compliance and governance. In your new role as the Manager - Privacy, you will lead and manage Queensland Treasury's privacy management, compliance and its statutory obligations under relevant privacy frameworks. You will utilise your detailed knowledge of State and Federal privacy legislation to research, analyse, investigate, manage, and respond to privacy breaches, complaints, requests for advice, and the development and delivery of privacy training. This role offers a unique opportunity to guide Treasury through the implementation of the new Queensland Privacy Principles and Mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme.

Your key areas of responsibility will include:
• High-Level Advice and Recommendations: Provide expert advice on privacy issues related to Queensland Treasury and support the Right to Information (RTI) function, including processing RTI applications.
• Leadership and Management: Lead the privacy team in delivering advice to Treasury staff on privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and other legislation.
• Policy Development and Implementation: Prepare, research, develop, and implement Treasury policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines based on State and Federal legislative and regulatory requirements, State Government policy and directives, and industry best practices regarding privacy.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with relevant State and Federal privacy regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate management of privacy practices.
• Collaborative Risk Management: Work collaboratively with other business groups to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments, identify and address privacy risks, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare reports on the department's statutory compliance with information privacy handling practices.
• Privacy Matter Management: Manage multiple simultaneous privacy matters, handle competing priorities, deliver quality outcomes, and ensure legislative needs are met within scheduled scope and timeframe.
• Training Development and Delivery: Develop and deliver privacy training to Treasury staff.

What experience you will bring.
• In-Depth Legislative Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and general knowledge of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld).
• Strong Drafting and Writing Skills: Ability to develop frameworks, policies, procedures, and decisions with clarity and precision.
• Effective Communication: Ability to convey complex privacy principles in simple terms, including the development and delivery of training.
• Risk Management Expertise: Experience in handling privacy-based risks and developing mitigating processes.
• Collaborative Approach: Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders and work consultatively with others.
• Leadership Experience: Proven track record in leading privacy programs and managing a team of privacy practitioners.
