Platform Engineering Lead

Newly created role in a high performing retail chain with high traffic ecommerce applications and in store products

Purpose of Position

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the platform engineering lifecycle, from ideation and design to implementation and operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented leader with a proven track record and deep understanding of platform engineering principles and practices, as well as a passion for innovation and collaboration. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions that empower our engineering organization to achieve unparalleled performance and agility.

Current Technology Stack
  • Application Stack: Typescript, MySQL, NestJs, TypeORM, Sequelize, React-Native etc.
  • Cloud Technologies: AWS cloud and use containerised and serverless services like lambda, aurora serverless, ECS, SQS, SNS etc.
  • Orchestration Tooling: All Infrastructure uses CloudFormation, while application orchestration is done through CDK, and process automation is through Terraform.
  • Developer Tooling: Local-stack and local containerised env as tool of choice. we switch between TDD and BDD depending on the project needs and follow all the scrum ceremonies.
  • Observability: Datadog as the tool of choice for observability and it’s built into our workflow. Apart from this we have AWS logging tools setup to provide

Technical requirements
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud and virtualisation platforms (Azure desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK, GitHub Action, Bitrise etc.).
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Linux, Windows), shell scripting (python - desirable), language and application hosting technologies (ECS, lambdas etc.).
  • Strong knowledge in one of the programming languages used such as TypeScript, JavaScript, SQL.
  • Ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex software and infrastructure issues and develop tools/systems for task automation.
  • Maintaining 100% automation coverage of core Insight build and deploy using cloud-native services and containers.
  • Implement scalable, resilient, and secure solutions in the public cloud (AWS), and to coach developers and infrastructure engineers.
  • Take the needs and challenges from the business requirement and formulate the technical roadmap.
  • Drive Thought-Leadership on DevOps, Cloud, and Infrastructure engineering.
  • Become a trusted and valued partner of the Head of Engineering/CTO and the teams.

Requirements & Behaviour
  • Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering or related roles, with a record of accomplishment of successful project delivery.
  • A solid DevOps development background with 5+ years’ experience working with AWS cloud services.
  • A strong knowledge on any one of the languages: JavaScript, typescript, Shell or similar.
  • Works with orchestration tools like Terraform, CloudFormation and CDK.
  • Solid experience in designing and implementing complex DevOps solutions in cloud native environment.
  • Experience working with Amazon AWS services like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK (see tech stack above).
  • AWS certification is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • ITIL certification is highly desirable but not mandatory
