The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is looking for a Production Trainee to join our hard-working Operations team

Reporting to Head of Media & Production, the Production Trainee will learn a broad range of production skills across the program. Delivered in partnership with Australian Youth Orchestra, and supported by Creative Australia Workforce Development Grant, this role is suited to individuals looking to kick start a career in the live event production industry.

During the course of the traineeship, you’ll work with expert technicians and teams on audio production, lighting, vision systems, stage management, and orchestral production management.

The Production Trainee will also undertake external qualification training in areas such as First Aid, Hearing Conservation, and Rigging. The role is a fixed term (6 month) variable time engagement at 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week).

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is looking for an exceptional Financial Controller to support our Finance team and wider organisation.

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and corporate reporting requirements for the MSO, whilst assisting the CFO to ensure sound financial management across the Company. This includes implementation of accounting policy/best practice/compliance obligations, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis, supervision of an end-to-end payroll process and implementation and maintenance of internal controls and processes to support financial best practice.

There is also a strong focus on proactive identification of issues, opportunities and solutions to ensure effective risk management, financial performance and sustainability.

Overseeing a small team, the role works closely across all functions of the business, and plays an important role in improving financial literacy and budgetary management. A confident and strategically oriented understanding of the unique challenges facing not for profit entities, particularly within the performing arts, is essential.
