Role Purpose

Employees at this level are responsible and accountable for their own work and the work of others. They are responsible for the operation of a unit/section under their supervision. Supervision is by means of reporting to more senior management as required. Employees must be able to meet deadlines and are required to exercise initiative, discretion and judgement within the range of their skills and knowledge.

Main accountabilities include:

General Duties

  • Communicate with airline reps and attend regular airline meetings.
  • Ensure that productivity and performance criteria are met.
  • Understanding of security procedure, quarantine ,hygiene , dangerous and perishable goods requirements as necessary in the performance of the job:
  • Check serviceability of ULD before loading.
  • Check graveyard and report and fixed any problems that arise.
  • Work down as directed.

Supervision

  • Provide supervision to all employees within their designated department.
  • Allocate shift overtime to cover shift vacancies ensuring that each shift has satisfactory staffing levels to ensure we meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, rectifying any issues with sufficient corrective action.
  • Administer disciplinary action to any staff members who are found to be in breach of company policy.
  • Allocate duties to staff members on shift, considering their mental and physical attributes and position experience.
  • Demonstrate leadership, decision making and organisational skills necessary to efficiently meet performance requirements.
  • Coordinate staff, demonstrating abilities to effectively complete inbound and outbound ramp turnarounds within the specified service level agreements.
  • Responsible for the coordination of training of staff in the accordance with established procedure by means of personal instruction and demonstration.
  • Provide leadership and demonstrate decision making and organisation skills necessary to efficiently meet performance requirements in a changing work environment.
  • Manage future shifts and staffing levels and the appropriate level of staff on duty.
  • Attend meetings as required by Ramp Manager.
  • Responsible for the control, supervision and training of designated staff in the accordance with established procedure by means of personal instruction and demonstration.
  • Liaise with Management, Level 8,Level 7, Level 6 BSR, Ramp IBC, Service desk Passenger Services Supervisors to ensure operational requirements are being met.
  • Supervisors must be in attendance whilst staff are on duty including coverage of off schedule and adhoc operations.
  • Manage and report OH&S concerns and maintain a safe working environment in designated area.
  • Allocate staff meal breaks in accordance with Menzies Aviation TWU EBA and relevant award.
  • Assist with presenting induction training and participation on interview panels.

Administration

  • Produce rosters to cover operational requirements.
  • Conduct staff appraisals and plan staff development.
  • Monitor the signing in/out of vehicles.
  • Complete a shift report at the end of each shift.
  • Initiate and investigate incident reporting using the MORSE system.
  • Actions incident reporting requirements and ensure all documentation details are completed accurately.
  • Ensure flight reports are filled out correctly and check the day reports to ensure accuracy of the day operation.
  • Maintain Menzies Aviation, Melbourne Airport and Airline certification/sign offs.

Training

  • Conduct induction training for new employees, emphasising safety, security, OH&S, customer service standards, and all ramp duties and task.
  • To control and coordinate record-keeping of all training data & re-certification dates, ensuring that staff maintain validity of certification & compliance standards are met.
  • Responsible for overseeing assessments & performance standards, production & update of training manuals / materials / training courses & programs, audits.
  • Assist in the evaluation of staff progress, performance & development and the compilation of performance statistics whilst identifying staff training requirements.
  • Coordinating and delivering all mandatory/specialist training and assessment programmes, and airline specific training.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture within the workforce, driving OH&S & security awareness & compliance.
  • Develop and maintain airline specific and Menzies Aviation lesson plans
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, assessments and test papers
  • Additional operational and general duties/projects as requested by Ramp Training Supervisor or delegated representative

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 36 months of operations or training experience in ramp duties/tasks
  • Level 3 Training Certificate- desirable
  • Current skills- ramp leading hand, narrow and wide body operator, general ramp tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Effective coaching and performance management skills
  • Effective presentation and communications skills- both written and oral
  • An ability to lead by example
  • An ability to prioritise & manage a concentrated workload
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • Sound computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
