Working for the Specialised Health and Safety Services unit provides you with an opportunity to make a real difference.

They are one of five regulators at the Office of Industrial Relations that impacts on the lives of Queensland workers and employers.

Through their regulatory frameworks, they are charged with making Queensland work and workplaces safer.

Their support is key in driving healthy workplaces across all industries, for all organisations and for all occupations within Queensland.


Working to achieve the vision of safer Queensland workplaces the Specialised Health and Safety Services unit comprises specialist technical advisors who provide professional engineering and technical advice on workplace health and safety issues for Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and its' clients.

They are now recruiting for a Chief Advisor (Engineering) to join the team.

Engineering Advisors are experienced, hands-on engineers who:

  • Provide professional and technical advice to OIR stakeholders, Government departments, the private sector, industry associations, unions and the general public
  • Support the design, development, implementation and evaluation of highquality programs and services that improve analysis of failure in structural, electrical/electronic and mechanical/pneumatic systems
  • Review and register design of plant (eg boilers, pressure vessels, gas cylinders, cranes, hoists and amusement devices)
  • Conduct safety audits of registered plant designs
  • A relevant degree/qualification in Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Eligibility to obtain RPEQ registration
  • Demonstrated practical engineering experience in plant and equipment as listed above
  • Sound knowledge of design standards for plant
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation
  • Welldeveloped report writing skills
  • Exceptional communication skills to enable liaison with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • A genuine desire to proactively contribute to keeping Queensland workplaces and employees safe
