Your Role and Responsibilities

The Livestock Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth and consistent flow of livestock procurement through the Hewitt supply chain. In this pivotal role, you will manage all aspects of livestock acquisition, from sourcing and purchasing to transportation and delivery, ensuring that our supply meets the operational and market demands efficiently and effectively.

Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include

  • Ensure efficient day-to-day operations of the livestock procurement team, overseeing admin processes, grids, pricing, invoicing.
  • Understand producer farming operations by species, ensuring compliance towards relevant certifications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with livestock suppliers, producers, and industry stakeholders. Cultivate partnerships to enhance procurement opportunities and strengthen the supply chain network.
  • Develop commercial analysis and planning tools to guide strategic procurement.
  • Understand market indicators, assess industry trends, and identify growth opportunities. 
  • Maintain a high level of market intelligence and forward price forecasting.
  • Maintain accurate records of livestock transactions, contracts, and supplier communications.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, inventory levels, and supply chain performance.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements governing livestock procurement, transportation, and handling. 
  • Assist in managing broader ESG initiatives across the producer group.
  • Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure that all purchased livestock meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to evaluate the health, condition, and suitability of livestock.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Animal Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in meat production or livestock procurement, supply chain management, or related roles within the agricultural industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to forge relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Australian livestock operations, regulations and commercial requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • A strong network in the Australian agriculture industry. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
