Job Description
The major duties performed by The Commercial Manager are:
- Leads the development of business cases and relevant financial analysis to inform decision-making related to commercial and strategic initiatives.
- Performs post-implementation reviews to create a culture of lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Provides financial and commercial advice during project implementation and milestone reporting, leads commercial negotiations and engages resources to support transaction management as required.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the companies competitive environment and identifies ways to deliver strategic value to the University.
- Provides expert commercial advice and develops briefings and discussion papers including analysis, modelling, and options analysis. Manages forecasts, monitors, controls and reports on relevant expenditure and project costings throughout the life of relevant projects.
- Financial oversight of the companies commercial leasing portfolio, and liaises with the partnerships team to maintain the right mix between in-kind and commercial use to deliver on the objectives.
- Manages key infrastructure and major capital project contracts in consultation with key stakeholders.
- Collaborates with the finance team to inform the development and implementation of new strategic and commercial initiatives.
The Successful Applicant
The Commercial Manager will meet the following criteria:
- CA/CPA qualified
- Experience with a Developer background would be highly desirable
- Sophisticated financial/ data analysis skills and ability to build financial models and provide succinct analysis to senior leaders to inform decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex enterprise initiatives, converting business strategy into action-oriented objectives and measurable results.
- Demonstrated ability to enquire, investigate, analyse and propose solutions to business challenges using quantitative and qualitative information.
- Demonstrated experience providing financial oversight and commercial advice on significant major capital projects or programs and an understanding of public infrastructure models.
- Extensive leadership skills with proven business acumen and ability to lead complex projects to achieve business outcomes within agreed timeframes and budget, ideally in a higher education context.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build effective, trusted relationships collaboratively and engagingly with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including the University Council and Executive.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in uncertainty without clear guidelines and to identify, communicate and implement agreed course of action. This should include financial, operational and people impacts that arise from this uncertainty.
- Understanding of project management methodology and project management tools.
