Work Science one of Australia’s highly regarded safety, property, and risk management consultancies is seeking a Laboratory Technician and Hazmat/Occupational Hygiene Consultant to support our continued growth and the delivery of recent new project wins.
Are you a Laboratory Technician eager to expand your horizons and transition into a dynamic consulting role? We're seeking a motivated individual to fill a hybrid position as a Laboratory Technician and Hazmat/Occupational Hygiene Consultant. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to apply your laboratory expertise while gaining valuable field experience in hazardous materials and occupational hygiene consulting.
The role will provide a high level of autonomy; however, you will be supported by a team of industry-recognised asbestos, occupational hygiene, safety, and property risk professionals. We are looking for a motivated individual who is looking to take the next step in their career and contribute to our continued growth.
Our clients include large Australian corporations, government departments, Defence, property owners and managers, manufacturers, infrastructure agencies, construction companies, and entertainment providers. This role can be part time or full time.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory analysis of asbestos samples with precision and efficiency, utilising your technical skills to deliver accurate results.
- Assist in equipment calibration and troubleshooting to ensure the reliability of analytical instruments.
- Conduct sampling for hazardous materials projects, providing hands-on support for field assessments.
- Collaborate closely with experienced consultants to learn best practices in occupational hygiene and hazardous materials management.
- Contribute your insights and observations to project reports, gaining exposure to the consulting process from start to finish.
Qualifications and experience
- Tertiary level qualification in an occupational hygiene, science, or related field
- 2+ years’ experience delighting your clients and colleagues in a laboratory technician role
- Previous experience with NATA accreditation for asbestos identification and asbestos fibre air monitoring including satisfactory completion of proficiency testing samples
- Enthusiasm for learning and a desire to transition into a consulting role, supported by your technical proficiency and attention to detail.
- Tenacious, resourceful, and willing to work outside comfort zones to learn and grow
- Curious, inquisitive and capable to thrive in a commercial consulting environment
