 The Role:

As a Senior Leader on the Vaughan Civil Leadership Team, you will provide specialist employment and industrial relations advice to the Director and Senior Management team. 

You will support and develop the HR team including onboarding & inductions and payroll, to ensure all statutory employer obligations are met.


Leading a small team working across multiple disciplines including Recruitment, Legislation, Work Management plans, Learning and Development, EBA & Award management, compliance & governance & IR reforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support managers at all levels to nurture a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies for all stages of the employee lifecycle, including talent management, employee relations, recognition, recruitment, and development.
  • Coordinate and manage daily project compliance in training and pre-qualifications. 
  • Work closely with leaders to enhance performance management and strengthen organizational capability.
  • Provide expertise on legislative matters and handle employee relations issues.
  • Use data insights and reporting to refine and advance HR processes.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of people-related policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Mange visa requirements across the business.
  • Manage and lead enterprise bargaining and implementation of single enterprise and multi-employer agreements.
  • Review and amend the IR strategy to align with sector changes and organisational objectives.
  • Provide employment law advice, and case management services on a range of complex workplace relations issues, including managing performance and conduct-related matters.
  • Develop recruitment strategies to maximise talent in the market.

About You:

You have previous people and function leadership experience and are comfortable in engaging with and advising at a senior level. Your extensive experience as a workplace relations practitioner has been built from working in large, diverse, and complex organisations, engaging with unions, and navigating multiple industrial instruments.

  • Proven experience as a HR generalist, ideally within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • You work to a high standard with attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
  • Experience in EBA interpretation and negotiation (advantageous), as well as conducting investigations and handling employee relations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives with sound judgment, solution orientation, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute HR initiatives that drive business results.
  • Has extensive experience across the entire recruitment lifecycle from supporting hiring managers writing adverts and job descriptions to the initial screening process and on-boarding and site inductions of successful professional. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or a related field (preferred).
