About the Role

The Finance team leads and coordinates the organisation’s statutory and management reporting obligations through financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and internal control systems and processes. We support Executive Management, Senior Management, Programs and the organisation by adding value in key strategic decision-making and in keeping fit for the future. 

The Team Leader – Financial Planning & Analysis works alongside other business functions, using strong analytical skills to advise and support decision-making through strategic insights. This role is responsible for leading and mentoring other Finance Business Partners and the Systems Accountant. This role helps improve business operations and performance and acts as the dedicated Finance Business Partner for the Communities Growth and Engagement business unit.

What you’ll be doing:

Strategic financial advice

  • Participate and contribute towards planning in order to influence long-term outcomes for business areas including financial sustainability. 
  • Provide contestable advice that seeks to benefit the organisation as a whole. 

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct extensive financial analyses, such as trend analysis, variance analysis, and scenario modelling, to support corporate choices.
  • Develop and provide financial reports and insights that include actionable suggestions and key performance metrics to stakeholders.

Business Partnering:

  • Prepare tender and grant applications and new business activities ensuring business models are accurate and flexible with the support of the Senior Management Accountant.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to department heads and operational teams, providing financial insights and guidance to support their goals and objectives.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Participate in the yearly budgeting process in collaboration with department heads, making sure that it is in line with both financial and strategic goals.
  • Create reliable and accurate financial projections using historical data, current market conditions, and operational inputs.

Management Accounting:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Analyse financial performance in relation to the plan and budget.

Strategic Planning and Decision Support

  • Support financial analysis, scenario planning, and risk assessment efforts as part of your strategic planning work.
  • Assess business ideas and investment prospects by carrying out ROI analyses and financial viability studies.
  • Work with senior management to create long-term financial goals and plans that complement the organisation's vision and mission.

Business governance

  • Support leaders, managers to ensure that the financial and business implications of activities, initiatives, or proposals are understood. 
  • Provide specialist input pertaining to financial risk matters and liaise effectively with the wider finance function. 

What qualifications and skills do I need?

Qualifications, licences and probity

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline;
  • CPA or CA certified;
  • National Police Clearance Check.
  • At least 5 (five) years of relevant experience in management accounting, financial planning and analysis and/or systems accounting;
  • Advanced Excel skills including Power Query, Power Pivot and Power BI;
  • Advanced skills in Financial Planning, Analysis and Budgeting systems;
  • Intermediate skills in other MS Office suite applications including PowerPoint;
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite and NetSuite Planning and Budgeting (NSPB) would be a distinct advantage.
